First Class in Oadby!

The First Class Learning Oadby Centre in Leicester opened its doors for the first time last week. Run by Centre managers Aynit Shah and Shanti Odedra, classes are held at the Trinity Methodist Church (off The Parade), centrally located in Oadby Town Centre. Children attended between 3.30 and 5.30pm; all bringing a sharp pencil with them!

Said Aynit; “It was a great first day with lots to do. The children enjoyed the work that was set and understood what was needed of them. They all left with their ” homework packs” knowing what had to be done for the following week. It will be great to see each child working through their own programme whilst developing confidence and gaining skills!”

Shanti was showing parents the logistics, “As our rooms are in the back part of the Church, we had to show parents the route in, and also where to wait! They all seemed happy with the venue, and children settled into the room really well. It was a very busy but extremely enjoyable start!”

The centre will be holding an Open Day on Saturday 11th September from 1.15pm – 3.45pm, with a formal opening by the Lord Mayor of Oadby & Wigston. For more information about the Open Day or the centre itself, please freephone on 08000 288 299 or mobile 07944 997 911.

Middlesbrough schoolchildren are First Class Learners!

There was excitement in the air on Monday 7th December when students of the Middlesbrough First Class Learning Centre were joined by pupils of four local primary schools for their annual Celebration of Achievement.

Chris Jones, Manager of the Middlesbrough Centre, was joined on stage by Mrs M. Cobbold, Headteacher of St Bernadette’s Primary School, who kindly presented certificates and Christmas presents to almost 200 children, with parents and teachers watching proudly from a packed hall. Mrs Cobbold was hugely impressed by the commitment of the students – in particular when she learned that many of the Middlesbrough students have been members of Chris’s class for several years.

The First Class Learning Schools Programme is co-ordinated by Chris Collins of the Hartlepool Centre. Chris was delighted that pupils of St Bernadette’s, St Joseph’s, St Augustine’s and St Clare’s schools were all able to attend.

‘Fantastic…lovely…so proud!’ were typical of the comments from parents as they left the hall after this very special celebration.

Dr. Mallika Bohm’s Success with First Class Learning.

One of First Class Learning’s newest franchisees is Dr Mallika Bohm from Rotherham in Yorkshire.

Mallika first made an enquiry in April 2009. After selection and interview Mallika attended First Class Learning’s initial two day training course in Darlington and after began her marketing campaign throughout the summer holidays. She opened her First Class Learning maths and English Centre in Rotherham at the start of the new term in September.

Three months down the line and Mallika has a thriving centre with over twenty students and made a great impression with other franchisees at First Class Learning’s annual conference this year. Her drive and enthusiasm together with the support of her family has clearly contributed to her success. Here is what Mallika has to say about her experience with First Class Learning:

“It has been crazy with all the enquiries but all is worthwhile as I have over 20 students already. There are two more children that I have assessed and they will attend from next week.

At the moment I am getting more than a 50% hit rate (one in two enquiries results in a student enrolling). I am now planning to get an assistant in December as the class size has grown faster than expected. I have already interviewed one candidate (early retired primary teacher).”
