Cambridge - Cherry Hinton First Class Learning Centre for Maths and English Tuition
Tel: 01223 902081
Welcome to the Cherry Hinton First Class Learning Centre in Cambridge. Whether your child is experiencing problems with their schoolwork, or finding school insufficiently challenging, joining the First Class Learning programme can help your son or daughter achieve his or her true potential.
Why have maths and English tuition?
Most parents are acutely aware of the importance of their child developing confidence and learning the key skills during their early school years, especially in maths and English. These are skills that will be crucial in helping their child become successful in adult life. And, of course, it’s only natural for every parent to want their child to have access to the best opportunities in life.
What is the First Class Learning Programme?
The First Class Learning Maths and English Programme has been successfully helping children to learn - and making their school studies easier - since 2003. The programme has been developed by a UK-based team of child-learning specialists and educationalists, specifically to help students who are following the National Curriculum in England and Wales (and the Scottish equivalent).
A personalised programme is designed for each child, to take him or her, step-by-step, from the basics in maths and/or English through all the key learning stages in those subjects to GCSE level.
At the same time, the programme builds the child’s confidence and enjoyment in learning and develops his or her ability to learn independently. As a result, parents of many First Class Learning students not only observe the desired improvement in their child’s maths and/or English, but also better performance in their child's other school subjects too.
Which children can benefit from the programme?
Children and young people of all ages and abilities thrive in the First Class Learning Centre because our programmes are personalised to their specific needs. Work is set individually, at the pace that is just right for each child, and we always ensure that she/he has understood and mastered a topic before she/he moves on.
The study centre is welcoming and friendly and, through lots of individual praise and encouragement, our students have fun learning and enjoy the success that comes with being able to produce their best work.
Many parents hear about the First Class Learning Programme from other parents who have been delighted with the progress their son or daughter has made and, as a general rule, the earlier a child starts working with the programme the better. A child can study maths, English or both subjects.
How can my child join?
The first step is to arrange for your son or daughter to be assessed by your Local Centre Manager. This assessment helps to identify your child’s specific needs and reveals what would be the most appropriate starting point for him or her in the First Class Learning programme. The assessment is offered completely free of charge, and without obligation.
The assessment meeting is also an ideal opportunity for you and your child to get to know your Local Centre Manager, Julia Thomas, and for Julia to get to know you both. She will explain the programme to you in more detail; tell your child all about the Study Centre so that he or she knows what to expect and answer your questions and discuss any concerns that you may have. She will also explain what would be expected of you as a parent - your support and encouragement are vital in helping your child gain the most from the programme.
Then, if you decide that you would like your daughter or son to join, Julia will arrange enrolment.
What happens after enrolment?
When your child becomes a First Class Learning student, he or she attends the Study Centre regularly (weekly, term times only) for about 15 - 20 minutes (per subject) and completes the pieces of work that have been set for him or her to do that day.
Sympathetic one-to-one help is always available in the Centre.
In addition, your child receives a programme of homework to take away and complete before the next centre session. There is flexibility about when this homework is done – a small amount every day or older students may prefer to do the work in two or three sessions over the course of the week.
Importantly, the programme continues with homework for each week of the school holidays. This ensures that your son or daughter maintains and develops his or her skills over the break and that he or she will be ready for a flying start on returning to school. If required, the amount of this homework can be adjusted to fit in with your child’s other holiday activities.
