About the Canterbury First Class Learning Centres

Welcome to the Canterbury First Class Learning Centre at the Kingsmead Leisure Centre. We support students in the local community with both maths and English tuition. Students of all ages attend the centre from Early Years to people studying GCSEs. First Class Learning aims to build confidence in learners and develop their independent learning ability. Students of all abilities thrive in the First Class Learning centre as our programmes are individualised to their specific needs. Our students progress a step at a time, moving on only after they have understood and mastered a topic. At First Class Learning we believe in taking small steps to success.

First Class Learning is a long term programme and students often stay with us for a number of years. At First Class Learning, we support your child's learning with the aim of making their school studies easier. Students can receive maths tuition or English tuition or can study both subjects together. We also offer 11+ preparation.

Parking at Kingsmead costs £1 which is refundable at the reception desk.

We have another Canterbury Centre at St Dunstan's Church Hall, London Road Canterbury CT2 8LS on Thursday afternoon 3.30pm to 5.30pm. Free Car Parking available

How does it work?

Following the initial assessment and using a combination of carefully structured worksheets and textbooks, your First Class Learning Tutor will devise a programme specifically for your child, to take him or her from the basics of Maths and/or English through to the more demanding aspects of school work. FCL was developed by a British team of educationalists specifically to support the National Curriculum in England and Wales (and the Scottish equivalent).

Once your child enrols, at each visit to the Study Centre he/she will be given a programme of homework that should be completed before the next class. Even in one subject, there may be homework on two different topics. All students should look upon the homework they receive as a weekly task – not a daily grind! There is flexibility – a child may choose to do a small amount each day, or in two or three sessions over the course of the week.

Sympathetic one-to-one help is always available in the Centre.

Testimonials:

From JK a mother of an eight year old maths student writes after two weeks:

'He's done so well and I can't tell you how happy I am that we heard about you and came along.  His confidence has rocketed already and I feel like he's really making some progress in cementing the concepts.'

Another 15 year old maths student has moved from a predicted grade 'C' GCSE result to a predicted 'A' grade following summer work with Canterbury First Class Learning

Congratulations to Julia who succeeded in her GCSE maths after revising with Canterbury First Class Learning
