Who we are:

Welcome to the Darlington First Class Learning Centre.
We support students in the local community with both maths tuition and English tuition.
The Centre Manager, Emma Thompson, is an experienced maths and English tutor having worked in the education sector for over ten years.
Students of all ages attend the Centre from Early Years all the way through to children studying GCSEs. As a general rule the earlier your child begins tuition the better. However, even in year 11 we can still provide tuition and valuable help for the consolidation of GCSEs.
First Class Learning aims to build confidence in children and develop their independent learning ability. Children of all abilities thrive in the First Class Learning Centre as our programmes are individualised to their specific needs and learning style.
Our students progress a step at a time, moving on only after they have understood and mastered a topic.
At First Class Learning we believe in 1% steps to 100% success.
First Class Learning is a long term programme and students often stay with us for a number of years. At First Class Learning, we support your child's learning with the aim of making their school studies easier.
Students can receive maths tuition or English tuition or can study both subjects together.
How does it work?
Using a combination of carefully structured worksheets and textbooks, your First Class Learning Maths and English Tutor will devise a programme specifically for your child, to take him or her from the basics of maths and/or English through to the more demanding aspects of school work. FCL was developed by a British team of educationalists specifically to support the National Curriculum in England, Wales and Northern Ireland (and the Scottish equivalent).
Before you decide to enrol your child with First Class Learning, she/he will be assessed by the Centre Manager. There is no charge for this and no commitment at this stage and the assessment will help to determine his/her specific needs and ensure a suitable starting point in the course if you subsequently decide to join.
Once your child enrols, at each visit to the Study Centre he/she will be given a programme of homework that should be completed before the next class. Even in one subject, there may be homework on two different topics. Home study plays a vital role in your child's progress by ensuring constant consolidation of the skills learned at the First Class Learning Study Centre in Darlington.
We ask the parents to assist the student in marking their homework. This ensures that you will always be fully aware of the tuition your child is receiving and the progress being made. All students should look upon the homework they receive as a weekly task – not a daily grind! There is flexibility – a child may choose to do a small amount each day, or in two or three sessions over the course of the week.
Sympathetic one-to-one help is always available in the Centre and rather than being a sign of failure, an error is always seen as a learning opportunity.
First Class Learning has an excellent record of improving students' performance at school and success in SAT exams and GCSE exams.
We are proud that most of our students come from parent recommendation!

times tables. She even looks forward to her FCL sessions. We're glad that FCL has helped to give her confidence in her own abilities." Parent of 7 year old Emily (Darlington)
"Although our children have only been with FCL a couple of months we can already see an improvement in their confidence, ability and approach to their maths work. We only wish that we'd found you sooner!" Parents of Rachel (age 11 years) and Adam (age 8 years).
