First Class Learning North Finchley

Maths and English Tuition

"Children Learning to Succeed"

WHO are we?

Fahima Rahimi and Nafisa Rahimi are joint Centre Managers.

Fahima Rahimi (PGCE London): a Maths specialist. I have vast experience in teaching and tutoring Maths, and have also completed a course in Advanced Numeracy (teaching upto A Levels). Additionally, I have successfully tutored pupils in Verbal, Non-Verbal Reasoning and Maths for the 11+ exams for selective/grammar schools.

Nafisa Rahimi (PGCE Birmingham): an English specialist. I have varied teaching experience with ages 11-19, as well as tutored pupils for 11+ exams, SATs, GCSE exam prep etc. I have records of Ofsted Grade 1 observations proving quality of teaching as well as experience teaching in selective schools.

  • All our staff are experienced and committed with clean, enhanced CRBs. All our staff members have been educated in selective/grammar schools and have excellent academic qualifications. Having been through the rigorous preparations for the 11+, they are well-equipped to share their knowledge and experience of the high standards of education and doing well; thus aspiring 'role-models' for our students.
  • Furthermore, we have a warm, positive teaching environment where extrinsic rewards, praise and encouragement are fundamental to our philosophy of ensuring our students are thriving, independent learners.
  • Last but not least - we all wear BIG SMILES! :)

WHAT we offer

We aim to help our students gain confidence and to succeed in Maths and English, utilising and optimising students’ full potential.

  • First Class Learning (FCL) is a network of after-school education centres run by independent Centre Managers using Maths and English programmes designed by a team of specialists with a wealth of experience in the educational sector, endorsed by the Dyspraxia Foundation and professional educationalists, several of whom are members of FCL’s Advisory Board.
  • We welcome students of all ages and all abilities.  This includes young primary, junior, secondary and adults who wish to improve their literacy and numeracy skills.  EAL students are also more than welcome.
  • Some come because this is their exam year. We give valuable help for the consolidation of knowledge and understanding for national examinations such as GCSEs.
  • If you have the slightest concern at all that your child is not performing at school to the best of their abilities, don't wait till it's too late. Contact us now!

"Designed by teachers...Whatever your ability!"

 WHY choose us?

  • Whether your child is having problems with schoolwork, or on the contrary, not finding school enough of a challenge, the First Class Learning Maths and English courses will help them to realise their full potential.
  • Unlike some other after-school programmes, we include exam preparation as an integral part of our programmes.
  • More importantly, FCL programmes are endorsed by schools as they support and complement the National Curriculum requirements. So, your child can not only learn and consolidate literacy and numeracy skills, but also improve school levels/grades and support future learning. Not just for school, but for life.
  • Last but not least, FCL is endorsed by the Dyspraxia Foundation.

HOW is this going to happen?

Initial Assessment: Before your child commences study with First Class Learning, he or she will be assessed by the FCL Managers, Fahima and Nafisa. This assessment will help to determine the specific needs of your child and ensure a suitable starting point in the course.

At The Learning Centre:  Once your child is enrolled, he or she will complete a piece of work which will be marked and assessed. Your child will then have the opportunity to discuss his or her work and progress with the Centre Managers. Each visit to the Centre should take 30 minutes, as a minimum, per programme.

Home Study: At each visit to the Education Centre your child will be given a detailed programme of homework to be completed before the next class. The homework plays a vital role in your child's progress by ensuring constant consolidation of the skills learned at the Centre. The homework is marked by the student (answer books are provided!) and in the case of youngsters - parents. This home marking ensures that you/your child will always be fully aware of the work your child is doing and the progress being made. The work is then returned, checked by our staff and then monitored and assessed by the subject teachers for target setting.

Class Ethos

We aim to create a calm welcoming atmosphere in class. We talk to every student while they are in the classroom and they can also turn to our trained staff for friendly advice and help.

Personal organisation and consideration for others are encouraged.

Friendships are formed here. We take our studies seriously – but we enjoy ourselves at the same time. Children arrive and leave with a smile.

NB: Children remain the responsibility of parents whilst at the centre.
