Welcome to First Class Learning
Hillingdon centre for maths and English
"Children Learning to Succeed"
Who we are:
First Class Learning (FCL) is the leading after-school maths and English programmes aimed at the National Curriculum. FCL has been designed by a team of specialists with a wealth of experience in the educational sector and is endorsed by the Dyspraxia Foundation.
We aim to help our students gain confidence and to succeed in maths and English. Courses are tailored to suit the individual ability and learning style of your child as well as being based on and complementing the National School Curriculum. We welcome students of any age between 4 and 16 years old. FCL is suitable for children of all abilities, but as a general rule the earlier your child starts the better.
Why First Class Learning (FCL) - Hillingdon?
Working together with FCL, you can help your child:
- Acquire a strong mastery of the basic skills required in maths & English
- Build a lasting confidence in the core subjects
- Develop excellent concentration skills
- Develop key self learning skills
More importantly, FCL programmes are endorsed by many schools nationally as they support and complement the National Curriculum requirements. So, your child can not only learn and consolidate literacy and numeracy skills, but also improve school levels/grades and support future learning. Not just for school, but for life.
How does it work?
Using a combination of carefully structured worksheets and textbooks, the First Class Learning programme will take your child from the basics of maths and/or English through to the more demanding aspects of school work.
Before you decide to enrol your child with First Class Learning, she/he will be assessed by the Centre Manager, Sejal Patel. (There is no charge for the visit, and no commitment at this stage.) This assessment will help to determine his/her specific needs and ensure a suitable starting point in the course if you subsequently decide to join.
What happens in class?
Students are typically in class for 20 to 30 minutes per subject. Once a student has completed their work it is marked and any errors corrected. Students starting a new maths or English topic or those that are having difficulty will receive individual help with the class tutor. Unlike a traditional tutor, this one-to-one tuition is reinforced with a weekly programme of regular assignments. However, independent learning is encouraged. All students will be made aware that guidance is always available.
They are taught that a mistake is always seen as a learning opportunity rather than failure. Praise and encouragement are fundamental to our philosophy of ensuring our students are thriving, independent learners
Home Study
At each visit to the Centre, your child will be given a detailed programme of home study to be completed before the next class. The home study plays a vital role in your child's progress by ensuring constant consolidation of the skills learned at the Study Centre. We strongly encourage you to assist in marking your child's work. This ensures that you will always be fully aware of the work your child is doing and the progress being made. We lay great emphasis on effective communication with students and parents and on putting enjoyment back into Maths and English. The First Class Learning programme has an excellent record of improving students' performance at school and success in S.A.T. / G.C.S.E. exams.
