Welcome to the KENSAL TOWN First Class Learning Study Centre
For Maths And English Tuition
Whether your child is having problems with schoolwork, or on the contrary, not finding school enough of a challenge, the First Class learning Maths and English programme will help them to realise their full potential. Whatever your child's age or ability, First Class Learning will maximise their potential with a learning programme that is tailored to their individual needs. It aims to build confidence in children and helps to develop their independent learning ability.
The programme has been developed by an outstanding team of British educationalists, specifically designed to support the NATIONAL CURRICULUM in England, Wales and Northen Ireland (together with the Scottish equivalent) and is endorsed by the Dyspraxia Foundation.
First Class Learning is a long term programme and runs throughout the year. At First Class Learning, we support your child's learning with the aim of raising self esteem and confidence, thus making their school studies easier. Maths and English can be studied as individual subjects or together.
Having worked at a successfully established centre in North-West London for nearly 5 years, I have now decided to open a centre of my own in KENSAL TOWN.
Before your child commences study with us in Kensal Town, he/she will be assessed (there is no charge for this and no commitment at that stage). The assessment will help to determine his/her specific needs and ensure a suitable starting point in the course if you subsequently decide to join.
The Study Centre
Once enrolled, your child will attend the Study Centre on a regualr basis, i.e every Saturdays. The classes run as drop-in sessions, where a child typically takes between 20 - 30 minutes per subject to complete the work set. He/she will complete a short piece of Maths and/or English worksheet which will be marked and returned to him/her for correcting. Your child will have the opportunity to discuss his or her work with us before leaving.
At the Study Centre, we will carry out regular assessments of your child's progress, the results of which will be shared with you, to give you a clear picture of your child's progress.
Your child will be encouraged to take the initiative in tackling problems and tasks. Guidance and assistance will of course, be given when required, but at First Class Learning, we believe that the ability to think independently in applying learned knowledge, is as important as the course. Your child will not be 'taught' in the traditional sense; rather, they will learn how to learn and to learn how to succeed.
Homework
At each visit to the Centre, your child will be given a detailed programme of homework which reinforces and consolidates their class work. The work needs to be completed on a daily basis by each student and you will be required to mark the work (handbooks will be provided!). This ensures that you will always be fully aware of the work your child is doing and the progress being made. This homework then needs to be returned at each class session where feedback will be provided.
The flexibility of the programme allows homework to be fitted in with all the other activities that are going on in your child's life. Students are neither required to meet a time criterion in order to demonstrate mastery of the First Class Learning worksheets, or to repeat the same work endlessly. Your child will never become bored, as the modular nature of the programme allows us to not only vary the type of work, but to also cover the entire National Curriculum. We don't have any 'no-go areas' at First Class Learning!
