Maths and English tuition - Norwich First Class Learning Centres

WHO ARE WE?

The three Norwich FCL tutoring centres are run by Charles Nevick, who has run a popular after-school Maths and English tuition centre in Taverham for the last 13 years.

WHERE ARE WE?

We have three Maths and English centres around Norwich.  The main centre operates in the Taverham Village Hall, where there is ample free parking.  Parents dropping children off can use the branch library in the same building, go to a local supermarket or the nearby garden and craft centre, or (in good weather!) take a younger sibling to the children’s play area behind the hall.  The Taverham Study Centre is open three days a week - after school on Mondays and Thursdays, and on Saturday mornings.

There are two 'satellite' centres - in Thorpe St Andrew and Cringleford.

The Thorpe centre is in The Dussindale Centre - in the same (free) car park as the Sainsbury's superstore in Pound Lane.  We open here after school on the 2nd and 4th Wednesday of each month.

The Cringleford centre is in The Pavilion, Oakfields Road.  We open here after school on the 1st, 3rd, and (if there is one) the 5th Wednesday of each month.  There is ample free parking.  After dropping a child at the centre, parents can go the Waitrose supermarket, about a three-minute drive away.  There is also a nearby children's playground.

At each of the centres, children drop in – usually once a week – for 20-30 minutes, and can arrive at any time up to half an hour before closing.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Using a combination of carefully structured worksheets and textbooks, the First Class Learning programme will take your child from the basics of Maths and/or English through to the more demanding aspects of school work.  FCL was developed by a British team of educationalists specifically to support the National Curriculum in England and Wales.

FCL is suitable for children of all abilities, and all ages from pre-school to teens.  As a general rule, the earlier the child starts the better.  A child can study eithMaths or English or both.

Before you decide to enrol your child with First Class Learning, she/he will be assessed by the Centre Manager in your own home.  (There is no charge for the visit, and no commitment at that stage.)  This assessment will help to determine his/her specific needs and ensure a suitable starting point in the course if you subsequently decide to join.

If your child enrols, at each visit to the Study Centre he/she will be given a programme of homework that should be completed before the next class.  Even in one subject, there may be homework on two different topics.  All students should look upon the homework they receive as a weekly task – not a daily grind!  There is flexibility – a child may choose to do a small amount each day, or in two or three sessions over the course of the week.

FEES

The cost is just £50/month for the first child doing one subject, plus a one-off £15 registration fee.  The fee for a second subject, or for any other sibling living in the same household, is reduced to £35/month, with no further registration fee.

If you feel that your child could benefit, please call 01603 423405 and ask for an information pack, or arrange for an assessment.
