Welcome to First Class Learning Centre for Maths and English Tuition in Sale

  • You want your child to succeed and do well at school.
  • You want your child to develop good English and Maths skills.
  • You want your child to reach their full potential.
  • You want your child to have the skills and the confidence they need throughout life

You can ensure that they get those skills when they enrol for Maths and English tuition at the Sale First Class Learning Centre.

Who we are:

The Manager of the Sale First Class Learning Centre is a qualified teacher with a PGCE and a number of years experience of teaching maths and English to a wide range of students at a centre similar to this one.  I have started this centre to support students in the local community with both Maths and English tuition.

Students of all ages attend the centre from Early Years all the way through to children studying GCSEs. First Class Learning aims to build confidence in children and develop their independent learning ability. Children of all abilities thrive in the First Class Learning centre as our programmes are individualised to their specific needs. Our students progress a step at a time, moving on only after they have understood and mastered a topic. At First Class Learning children progress at their own pace and at the level and workload that is just right for them.

First Class Learning is a long term programme and students often stay with us for a number of years.  At First Class Learning, we support your child's learning with the aim of making their school studies easier. Students can receive Maths tuition or English tuition or can study both subjects together.

Where we are:

The centre is based at The Avenue Methodist Church, Wincham Avenue, Sale, Cheshire M33 4PL.  The entrance is through The Living Well Centre via the car park at the back of the building.  Classes are held in the Main Hall on Tuesdays from 3.30 to 5.30pm with the last entry being at 5pm.  Children drop into the centre between those times and are typically in the centre for around 20 to 30 minutes.

Meeting the needs of your  child:

The programme is personalised, systematic and relevant to what they do on the school curriculum. As well as the work don e in class, children complete some homework each day for around 10-15 minutes.  The best  progress is made if this is done daily, but it needs to be completed and marked before the next class. Homework is flexible to meet the needs of each child.

We aim to build skills and confidence and develop their independent learning ability.  Children of all ages and abilities thrive on the First Class Learning programmes as the work is tailored to meet their individual needs, ability and learning style.  Our students progress one step at a time, at their own pace.  We give systematic work which is designed to give them the practice they need to master the topics, however, we do not repeat any of the work they have done unless it is in the interest of the child

How does it work?

Using a combination of carefully structured worksheets and textbooks, your First Class Learning Tutor will devise a programme specifically for your child, to take him or her from the basics of Maths and/or English through to the more demanding aspects of school work.  FCL was developed by a British team of educationalists specifically to support the National Curriculum in England, Wales and Northern Ireland (and the Scottish equivalent).

Before you decide to enrol your child with First Class Learning, he/she will be assessed by the Centre Manager. This is to find out where your child is and what help we need to give.  We will also assess your child's learing syle and discuss ability and needs, so the programme can be tailored to meet those needs.

Once your child enrols, at each visit to the Study Centre he/she will be given a programme of homework that should be completed before the next class.  Even in one subject, there may be homework on two different topics.  All students should look upon the homework they receive as a weekly task – not a daily grind!  There is flexibility – a child may choose to do a small amount each day, or in two or three sessions over the course of the week.  This work then needs to be marked, corrections done, recorded and brough to the next class.

Work is interesting and varied and relevant as the programme is based on the UK National

Curriculum, so your child will gain valuable skills and confidence to succeed at school and beyond.

Improve schoolwork and exam grades:

The First Class Learning Centre in Sale caters for students studying from primary age up to and including GCSE level.  Specific support for SATS at all key stages and for examinations and national tests is available at the centre and will be incorporated into your child's individual study plan.

Help is always available and we see an error as a learning opportunity - that is why corrections are so important.  You cannot learn unless you make a mistake!  If errors are not corrected mistakes will continue. Our aim is to ensure that your child masters the programme and succeeds.

Sympathetic one-to-one help is always available in the Centre.
