St Johns Wood Centre For Maths and English Tuition
'Seek Excellence and Success will Follow'
Welcome! I run the Maths and English after school club in St Johns Wood which uses materials from the First Class Learning Programme and covers the national curriculum.
Who we are:
First Class Learning (FCL) is a leading after-school maths and English programme aimed at the National Curriculum. It has been developed by a British team of educationalists specifically to support the National Curriculum in England, Wales and Northern Ireland (and the Scottish equivalent) and is endorsed by the Dyspraxia Foundation.
Leading up to starting at FCL, I successfully ran a popular maths and English after-school centre of over 350 students for 7 years. In the last year I have established my centre in St Johns Wood, London using the FCL programme.
Through my last 7 years experience and using the First Class Learning programme, I nurture my students by
(1) building confidence,
(2) concentration and
(3) a desire to learn and hence develop their independent learning ability.
Students of all ages attend the centre from Early Years all the way through to children studying GCSEs.
Children of all abilities thrive at my centre and the First Class Learning programmes are individualised to each student’s specific needs. Each student progresses a step at a time, moving on only after they have understood and are confident in each topic making it a truly individual programme.
The programme is a long term programme and runs throughout the year. Students generally stay with me for a number of years. At my centre, we support your child's learning with the aim of raising self esteem and confidence, thus making their school studies easier. Maths and English can be studied as individual subjects or studied together.
How does it work?
Using a combination of carefully structured worksheets, workbooks and textbooks, the First Class Learning programme will take your child from the basics of maths and/or English through to the more demanding aspects of school work. The modular nature of the programme allows us to vary the type of work, and to also cover the entire National Curriculum. At my centre we don't have any 'no-go areas'
When you decide to enrol your child with St John’s Wood Centre, I will assess your child. The assessment will help to me determine his/her specific needs.
What happens in class?
The classes are held on Tuesdays and Saturdays as drop-in sessions and students attend once a week. Students are typically in class for 20 minutes per subject. Students are provided with a task to complete which is then marked and any errors corrected. Students receive guidance whenever necessary, and independent learning is encouraged.
Home Study
At each visit to the Centre, your child will be given a detailed programme of home study which reinforces and consolidates their class work. The work needs to be completed on a daily basis by each student and you will be required to mark the work (handbooks will be provided!). This ensures that you will always be fully aware of the work your child is doing and the progress being made. This homework then needs to be returned at each class session for review and feedback.

Testimonials
I must give you and the programme tremendous credit as my son has totally overcome his fear of writing. Of course he needs to improve his writing technique but he no longer freezes and on the contrary, is happy to sit and do his English homework. Last year, we used to have tremendous anxiety every Tuesday when he got English homework. He would work himself to such an extent that he was just unable to put anything on paper. And now I don’t even have to look at him and he just does it himself. Two weeks ago he had to write a playscript for Macbeth which they are reading at school and I thought he wrote quite a witty script. So thank you for constantly encouraging him and for all your patience and support.
Sheetal ( Parent - St Johns Wood Centre)
Raxita is creative, personable, knows her subject and is always there to help. Raxita is the reason my eldest son has such good mental maths and that both of my boys (now age 7 and 10yrs) have really improved their ability to focus and study independently. I always found Raxita to be an absolute pillar of support when it comes to education. I recommend her whole heartedly, whether you are in state schools or indendent !! Get in touch and find out how she can help :)
