Our Centres - Stockton on Tees
Welcome to the Stockton First Class Learning Centre
What we Offer:
The Stockton First Class Learning Centre offers students tuition and the confidence they need to succeed in Maths and English. Courses are tailored to suit the individual ability and learning style of your child and are based on and complement the school curriculum. We at First Class Learning Stockton provide tuition to students between 4 and 16 years old. As a general rule the earlier your child begins tuition the better. However, even in Year 11 we can still provide tuition and valuable help for the consolidation of G.C.S.E.s.
Initial Assessment:
Before a student commences study with The Stockton First Class Learning Centre, she/he will be assessed by the Centre Manager. This assessment will help to determine the specific needs of the student and ensure a suitable starting point in the course. Once we have established the students skill level we are able to offer a much better suited level of tuition.
In the Class:
On arrival at class students are greeted, they return their communication sheet and are then given their class work for the day. First Class Learning students typically spend 20-30 minutes in class or a little longer if they are doing two subjects. The class work is always marked and assessed before the students leave. Independent learning is encouraged. All Stockton First Class Learning Centre students are aware that sympathetic help is always available and that rather than being a sign of failure an error is always seen as a learning opportunity. There are also other educational activities available for the younger students. Students starting a new topic or those that are having difficulty will receive one to one tuition. Unlike a traditional tutor, this one to one tuition is reinforced with a weekly programme of regular homework. If the student or parent have any issues they wish to raise, either about the tuition or something else, these can be mentioned on the communication sheet to be discussed in class or by phone later.
Home study:
At each visit to the Stockton First Class Learning Centre the student will be given a detailed programme of home study to be completed before the next class. Home study plays a vital role in your childs progress by ensuring constant consolidation of the skills learned at the Stockton First Class Learning Study Centre. We ask the parents to assist the student in marking their work. This ensures that you will always be fully aware of the tuition your child is receiving and the progress being made. We lay great emphasis on effective communication with students and parents and on putting enjoyment back into Maths and English. First Class Learning has an excellent record of improving students performance at school and success in S.A.T. / G.C.S.E. exams.
Class Ethos:
At the Stockton First Class Learning Centre we aim to create a calm welcoming atmosphere in class, helping sustain a positive mentality from the students towards the tuition. We talk to every student while they are in the classroom and they can also turn to our trained assistant for friendly advice and help, whether it be about the tuition subjects or something else. Personal organisation and consideration for others are encouraged. Students are expected to bring a sharp pencil to class and to do their work quietly, without distracting others. However there is a gentle buzz of conversation – friendships are formed here. We take our tuition and studies seriously – but we enjoy ourselves at the same time. Children arrive and leave the Stockton First Class Learning Centre with a smile.
We are proud that most students come from parent or school recommendation!

SCHOOL HOLIDAYS
Once again we are approaching the end of the summer term and another school year draws to a close – it is hard to believe that the six weeks school holidays are almost upon us!!
CENTRE OPENING
The centre will be open as normal during July from 3.30pm-5.30pm on a Monday with the last session being Monday 25th July 2011.
We are closed during August for annual holidays but the children will be given work on Monday 25th July to complete as normal during the summer holidays using their workbooks etc.
Please encourage your child as far as possible to complete the work on a weekly basis as normal so that their progress continues and their brains are still in gear when they return to school in September. It can take some children two –three weeks to get back into their normal working mode if they get out of routine in the summer holidays. If any work doesn’t get finished then simply bring it back in September and we’ll continue from where they left off.
The centre reopens at 3.30pm on Monday 5th September 2011 which is the same day that most of the local schools start back.
SATS RESULTS
The Year 6 children have recently received their SATS results and everyone has done really well – all as a direct result of the hard work and effort that they have put in over the last six-nine months. One or two of the schools are still waiting for results for the English writing paper – there seems to have been a problem with the marking system for this paper and some papers have been sent back for remarking.
If you are away on holiday or won’t be attending on 25th July please let me know and I’ll give the children the work in advance. My email is juliehawke1@gmail.com.
Enjoy the summer - well done to everyone.
Julie, Kay, Lisa, Matt, Alice and David.
