Our Centres - Wakefield North
Welcome to the First Class Learning
Maths and English Wakefield North Study Centre
You are assured of a warm friendly welcome at our Study Centre in Wrenthorpe, staffed by our very experienced team.
Where is the centre?
We operate from two separate locations. On Mondays and Wednesdays you will find us at St Anne's Church Hall, Wrenthorpe. The church Hall is next to the Anglican Church on Wrenthorpe Road, and has recently been refurbished. The class runs from 3:30 until 5:30, but students should aim to arrive before 5 p.m. in order to complete their work in time. There is a small car park on the site.
On Tuesday we are at the Parish Centre, Crofton. The Parish Centre is on Crofton High Street, just past the local Sainsbury's store. Again, the class is open between 3:30 and 5:30 p.m. It's not practical to park on the High Street so turn right onto Towers Close and park along there.
Who runs the centre?
The centre manager is Phil Wright. Phil has a B.Sc. in Applied Physics and has worked in the computing industry for more years than he wishes to remember. Phil has a very experienced team, who between them have over 40 years of after class tuition, plus class teaching experience. Visitors to the class comment on the friendly atmosphere which certainly helps get the very best out of our students.
What age groups study with First Class Learning?
First Class Learning is suitable for all ages, from pre-school to 16 and all abilities are welcome! The programmes are suitable for SAT's revision as well as GCSE's. Courses may also suit adults who have specific needs.
Does First Class Learning meet the requirements of the National Curriculum?
Yes! Some after school programmes are used in many different countries and are not designed to cater for a particular curriculum. First Class Learning was developed by a team of educationalists from Scotland and England specifically to support the National Curriculum in England and Wales and the 5-14 programme in Scotland. The First Class Learning programme will take your child from the basics of the subject through to the more demanding aspects of schoolwork. The one to one tuition provided is reinforced with a weekly programme of homework. The success your child experiences in the early stages allows your child to develop the confidence and independence to tackle work which may have previously seemed too difficult.
What about Science?
Already a number of parents have asked about Science. At the moment the FCL programme covers Maths and English across the UK but a Science module is being worked on. From January 2010 the Wakefield Centre will be offering Science GCSE study to a few students. It is hoped that a full science programme will be developed over the next year and made available to all.
If you have a particular requirement for Science study please contact Phil Wright and he will be happy to discuss your options with you.
