Maths and English Tuition at Bishop's Stortford

Welcome to the Bishop's Stortford First Class Learning Centre. We support children in the local community with both maths and English tuition. Science Key Stage 3 also available.

The Centre Manager is Mark Remmington, a fully qualified teacher with experience teaching children and adults in both school and commercial settings. Mark has a passion for finding the maximum potential for each student, and encouraging them to attain it through continual positive reinforcement.

How we work

Our First Class Learning Centre Manager, Mark Remmington, will call you to discuss how we can help your child with maths, English or KS3 Science. He will then assist your child to complete an assessment to determine which path is most suitable. Once we have established your child's needs, we will put together a bespoke course of action that will support and encourage your child's learning. This assessment can happen at a mutually-convenient location, or online. If you feel happy with our plan and that we are the best option for you and your child, they will then be able to start attending regular classes at the centre or online. In these classes they will complete a short piece of work which will be marked, returned and discussed with the Centre Manager, who will give them a detailed programme of homework to be completed before the next class.

Tuition Services

Maths

The First Class Learning maths programme is designed to equip your child with the fundamental skills required for success in school mathematics, and to provide stretch assignments with practice to those that simply are not receiving enough in their current learning environments. The First Class Learning resources cover all the essential areas of the school curriculum, supplemented where required in discussion with parents.

English

Our English programme concentrates on reading, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, punctuation, creative writing and handwriting. The initial diagnostic testing assesses the child's needs so that we can provide an individualised programme.

Science

Our comprehensive science programme for KS3 and advanced KS2 will develop your child's knowledge and the skills required as part of their school curriculum. The programme has a proven record for improving results and encourages enjoyment in learning.

FAQ

Are you assisted at the centre?
Yes, I have several high-performing sixth-formers and undergraduates who assist me with delivering high-quality tuition to all the children. All have high grade passes in maths and English GCSEs, and predicted or actual high grade passes in either maths or English at A-level.
Do you cater for all ages of students?
I presently have students aged from five to 16 attending, with primary and secondary children grouped separately.
Can you extend an already well-performing student?
Certainly! The First Class Learning materials are ideal for a self-starting student who wishes to be stretched into topic areas that won’t be touched upon at school until later years. The recent successes that the centre assistants have also experienced with their own public examinations is put to use to provide contemporary extension exercises.
Are you open during school holidays?
Yes, we are open for the vast majority of the year, and even on the rare occasions when we are closed the weekly homework is still provided.
