Welcome to the Guildford First Class Learning Study Centre. Isabel du Toit, Centre Manager, is an experienced teacher and educational leader with a passion for helping students to become the very best they can be.
The First Class Learning maths and English programmes are flexible and tailored to learners' individual needs and abilities so students move on only when they are confident with a topic. Regular testing ensures that the best possible progress is made. The 'little and often' approach, with plenty of repetition and practise, really does make a huge difference.
As each child follows their own individualised learning path, targeted to fill any existing gaps in their understanding, it supports their schoolwork, builds confidence and develops independent learning skills, something that is extremely important in today's busy classrooms in schools.
COVID-19 UPDATE:- We continue to offer 1:1 support remotely with video or phone calls and the daily worksheets are posted to you. Due to the statutory restrictions, the centre sessions are temporarily closed. However, all students can still make the same progress as if they were coming to the class.
The first step is to arrange a convenient time for your child to complete some initial assessments to determine which path is most suitable for them. Isabel the centre manager, will put together a bespoke course of action that will support and encourage your child's learning. Once you feel happy with our plan and that we have identified the best options for you and your child, they will be able to start attending regular classes at the centre, or online while the restrictions are in place. In these classes they will complete a short piece of work- often with some new challenges- which they will mark themselves or with the help of the tutor if they are still very young. As they finish tasks, they will return and discuss their learning with the tutor, who will also give them homework to be completed – about 10 or 15min every day- before the next class. We encourage all parents to encourage their child to mark the homework daily, or mark it with the child, so that corrections can be made as they go through the week and their progress will be seen in the results. If they have any problems with the work, you can call Isabel at any time between 09:00 and 18:00, Monday to Friday.
