Our centre

Welcome to the Redland First Class Learning Maths & English Tuition Centre. Rachel Holdom, study centre manager, has been running highly successful after-school maths and English classes for over 22 years (12 years Kumon). The FCL programme follows the UK National Curriculum and supports children in the local community with both maths and English tuition.

Students of all ages attend our tuition centre held at Westbury Park Methodist Church Hall in Redland on a Tuesday from 15:30-17:30 and are in the class for around 30 minutes per subject. They are then set homework of 10-15 minutes per day, practising what they have learnt in the class to ensure mastery and fluency at each step. We cater for learners from reception in primary and preparing for SATS, through to secondary school and the GCSE exams. The FCL tutoring programme is also being run in many schools throughout the UK.

Through individualised programmes of daily worksheets, our expert tutors support your child's learning in maths, English or both subjects together in order to help with their school studies, build confidence and develop independent learning skills, something that is extremely important in today's busy classrooms in schools.

Our English and maths tuition programmes are flexible and tailored to learners' individual needs and abilities so students move on only when they are confident with a topic. Regular testing ensures that the best possible progress is made. The 'little and often' approach, with plenty of repetition and practise, really does make a huge difference.<br />

How it works

One of our First Class Learning tutors will meet with you to discuss how we can help your child with maths or English. They will then sit down with your child and complete an assessment to determine which path is most suitable for them. Once we have established your child’s needs, we will put together a bespoke course of action that will support and encourage your child’s learning. If you feel happy with our plan and that we are the best option for you and your child, they will then be able to start attending regular classes at the centre. In these classes they will complete a short piece of work which will be marked, returned and discussed with the tutor, who will give them a detailed programme of homework to be completed before the next class.
