Our centre

We support children in the local community with both maths and English tuition. We cater for learners from Early Years through to those taking their GCSEs. Each child has an individual study programme based on their needs and all materials meet the National Curriculum aims and objectives.

We teach the technical skills needed within the subject by individually supporting students as they go through their unique learning path. Let’s take, Simple Multiplication as the current module. We will teach what it is, how you apply it from single digits to multiple digits. This is what you can expect from any good tuition provider.

However, we do not stop there. Once students understand these skills, we use them in a practical scenario so the learning is associated to a physical memory. With simple multiplication, the student will have instructions of how to build a 30cm bridge and will need to apply multiplication to build a 150cm bridge.

Finally, we take the students out on a field trip where the technical skills are used in an inspirational way. For this example, we will take students to a L’Oreal Shampoo making lab where the students apply maths whilst making and testing their own shampoo.

By the end of the process, multiplication will mean more than just ink on paper! Each student will have the knowledge and a range of memories to reinforce the learning. Furthermore, after a day in the life of a lab scientist, they will have broadened their horizons.

At First Class Learning - Harlow, we offer free diagnostic assessments, allowing us to identify strengths and areas to improve. The assessments are carried out by centre manager who is qualified to deliver the First Class Learning study programme in the comfort of your home.

Our English and maths programmes are tailored to learners' individual needs so students move on only when they are confident with a topic. At First Class Learning we believe in 1% steps to 100% success.

How it works

One of our First Class Learning tutors will meet with you to discuss how we can help your child with maths or English. They will then sit down with your child and complete an assessment to determine which path is most suitable for them. Once we have established your child’s needs, we will put together a bespoke course of action that will support and encourage your child’s learning. If you feel happy with our plan and that we are the best option for you and your child, they will then be able to start attending regular classes at the centre. In these classes they will complete a short piece of work which will be marked, returned and discussed with the tutor, who will give them a detailed programme of homework to be completed before the next class.

From the basics of reading, writing and spelling to comprehension and creative writing skills, the First Class Learning English Programme follows principles that make it ideal for all learners, whether primary or secondary. Drawing on a variety of imaginative materials, the programme develops the key skills that allow the learner to read and write fluently, confidently and with enjoyment.
