Our centre

At First Class Learning Stockton we look at the needs of every pupil on an individual basis and work with them to develop their Maths and English skills so that they can achieve their full potential in school. At enrolment every child is assessed to identify their current stage of development and educational needs and then we develop an individual study programme for them using our bespoke suite of materials which are linked to the national curriculum. The centre is open on a Monday from 3.30pm to 5.30pm and every week the children attend and get a new piece of work which they work through with one of the tutors so that they fully understand the new concept. Any work not completed at the centre can be taken home to finish and brought back the following week for review. We work very hard to create a calm and relaxed atmosphere so that the pupils really feel comfortable and enjoy their time with us. Lots of the pupils refer to it as a "club" and new friendships are forged and confidence built as the pupils learn and improve their maths, english and general study skills. Pupils can enrol for a single subject (Maths or English) or both in line with their needs. We cover all stages of the curriculum from Foundation through KS1, KS2, SATS preparation, KS3 and onto GCSE level in both Maths and English.

How it works

One of our First Class Learning tutors will meet with you to discuss how we can help your child with maths or English. They will then sit down with your child and complete an assessment to determine which path is most suitable for them. Once we have established your child’s needs, we will put together a bespoke course of action that will support and encourage your child’s learning.

If you feel happy with our plan and that we are the best option for you and your child, they will then be able to start attending regular classes at the centre. In these classes they will complete a short piece of work which will be marked, returned and discussed with the tutor, who will give them a detailed programme of homework to be completed before the next class.

From the basics of reading, writing and spelling to comprehension and creative writing skills, the First Class Learning English Programme follows principles that make it ideal for all learners, whether primary or secondary. Drawing on a variety of imaginative materials, the programme develops the key skills that allow the learner to read and write fluently, confidently and with enjoyment.
