Our centre

Welcome to the Surbiton First Class Learning Tuition Centre.

We support children in the local community with maths and English tuition. Children of all ages and abilities are welcome to attend our centre on Wednesdays at 4–6 pm.

Our tuition programmes have been developed by experienced subject specialists and are regularly updated in order to meet the learning outcomes of the current National Curriculum.

We offer a free initial assessment to identify strengths and areas to improve and build on. In our study centre, expert tutors support the children’s learning in maths, English or both subjects together. Our study programmes are:

- Carefully personalised for each child, so they are able to complete tasks in achievable steps

- Systematic, flexible and relevant, designed to support children’s learning at school

- Designed to improve concentration, develop independent study skills and build children’s confidence by experiencing success.

Our tuition centre is based in the historic building of Hillcroft College in the heart of Surbiton, just off Ewell Road. Surrounded by peaceful gardens, this imposing Victorian mansion house, built in the 1860s, provides an ideal learning environment for our students.

How it works

One of our First Class Learning tutors will meet with you to discuss how we can help your child with maths or English. They will then sit down with your child and complete an assessment to determine which path is most suitable for them. Once we have established your child’s needs, we will put together a bespoke course of action that will support and encourage your child’s learning.

If you feel happy with our plan and that we are the best option for you and your child, they will then be able to start attending regular classes at the centre. In these classes they will complete a short piece of work which will be marked, returned and discussed with the tutor, who will give them a detailed programme of homework to be completed before the next class.

From the basics of reading, writing and spelling to comprehension and creative writing skills, the First Class Learning English Programme follows principles that make it ideal for all learners, whether primary or secondary. Drawing on a variety of imaginative materials, the programme develops the key skills that allow the learner to read and write fluently, confidently and with enjoyment.
