I have seen such a difference in my daughters confidence since commencing tuition with Neela and her team. First started with Maths and then as the Wandsworth test approached, their Verbal and Non Verbal Reasoning. They both did exceptionally well in their test and all their hard work paid off but a big thank you to Neela and her team. I would thoroughly recommend her to anyone else.

Maths and English Tuition at Tooting

Welcome to the Tooting First Class Learning Study Centre. Neela Patel, centre manager, has been running highly successful after-school maths and English classes for over 22 years (12 years Kumon).

Students of all ages attend our centre for around 45 minutes per subject. In these classes they will hand in their previous week of work and complete that day's worksheets which will be marked, returned and discussed with the tutor. They are then set a programme of work of around 10-15 minutes per day to do at home, practising what they have learnt in the class to ensure mastery and fluency at each step.

The individualised programme is targeted to fill any existing gaps in their understanding. This therefore helps with their school work, builds confidence and develops independent learning skills, something that is extremely important in today's busy classrooms in schools.

Our English and maths programmes are flexible and tailored to learners' individual needs and abilities so students move on only when they are confident with a topic. Regular testing ensures that the best possible progress is made. The 'little and often' approach, with plenty of repetition and practice, really does make a huge difference.

How we work

Our First Class Learning Centre Manager will call you to discuss how we can help your child with maths and English. We will then assist your child to complete an assessment to determine which path is most suitable for them. Once we have established your child's needs. An individualised programme is put together that will support and encourage your child's learning enabling them to gain confidence and fill in gaps that they may have. Your child can then start completing the daily worksheets with ongoing support from Neela whenever it is needed. Our programme is a partnership between First Class Learning, your child and you as parents so communication between all is important.

FAQ

How does FCL differ to 1:1 tutoring?
FCL offers structure and daily practice, with a ‘little and often’ approach, enabling the child to retain what they have learnt & gain confidence with ease. It also develops good study habits and independent learning so that they don’t become dependent on others teaching them.
How will FCL help with my child’s school work?
By filling in any gaps they may have and developing their confidence we can change their attitude to a positive one and at the same time give them the skill sets needed to carry through to all school work.
Can I sit with my child while they do their work at the centre?
If your child is worried about coming into their first session, parents can come in to begin with but you won’t need to stay for long. Once they see the friendly faces and welcoming atmosphere, they are happy to stay on their own. We like to encourage independent and confident students.
If I join, am I tied into FCL for a set amount of time?
No, not at all. FCL is primarily a long term programme, not a 'quick fix'. However, there are many reasons why you may need to stop, so I just ask for a month's notice.
