Maths and English Tuition at Muswell Hill

Welcome to Muswell Hill First Class Learning Tuition Centre.

We support children in the local community with maths, English and science tuition. The Muswell Hill centre is run by Jennifer and John Tudor, who are fully trained to deliver the First Class Learning study programmes. They both hold an Enhanced DBS certificate and are trained in child safeguarding.

First Class Learning provides structured worksheet based programmes which align with the National Curriculum. The programmes promote independent learning and study skills, helping your child to gain the confidence to tackle new concepts. The skills based assessment ensures that each child’s learning journey is unique and is designed around the child’s needs. The materials are dynamic and interesting, ensuring children stay engaged with learning. Weekly attendance at the centre is enhanced and reinforced by 10 – 15 minutes of daily homework.

How we work

Our First Class Learning Centre Manager will call you to discuss how we can help your child with maths, English and science. They will then assist your child to complete an assessment to determine which path is most suitable for them. Once we have established your child's needs, we will put together a bespoke course of action that will support and encourage your child's learning.

Jennifer and John Tudor

Centre Manager

First Class Learning Muswell Hill is run by John and Jennifer Tudor, who are fully trained to deliver the First Class Learning study programmes. Every First Class Learning Centre Manager holds an enhanced DBS certificate. Jennifer has many years of experience inspiring young minds and helping them reach their potential. She is a qualified teacher who has worked in a variety of educational settings including mainstream, independent, and SEN schools. Her teaching experience has allowed her to develop an in-depth understanding of effective methods to support children working at all different levels. Jennifer’s qualifications include BSc in Psychology, Postgraduate Certificate in Education (Primary), and Postgraduate Certificate in Specific Learning Difficulties (Dyslexia). John has worked in various sectors helping people reach their full potential through training, coaching, and mentoring. He is passionate about inspiring and developing his students with the knowledge and skills to succeed. With over 20 years experience of managing departments successfully, he is always focused on delivering the best results.

Maths

The First Class Learning maths programme is designed to equip your child with the fundamental skills required for success in school mathematics. Using a range of resources, it covers all the essential areas of the school curriculum.

English

Our English programme concentrates on reading, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, punctuation, creative writing and handwriting. The initial diagnostic testing assesses the child's needs so that we can provide an individualised programme.

Science

Our comprehensive science programme will develop your child's knowledge and the skills required as part of their school curriculum. The programme has a proven record for improving results and encourages enjoyment in learning.

FAQ

How does FCL differ to 1:1 tutoring?

FCL offers structure and daily practice, with a ‘little and often’ approach, enabling the child to retain what they have learnt and gain confidence with ease. It also develops good study habits and independent learning so that they don’t become dependent on others teaching them.

How will FCL help with my child’s school work?

By filling in any gaps they may have and developing their confidence we can change their attitude to a positive one and at the same time give them the skill sets needed to carry through to all school work.

Can I sit with my child while they do their work at the centre?

If your child is worried about coming into their first session, parents can come in to begin with but you won’t need to stay for long. Once they see the friendly faces and welcoming atmosphere, they are happy to stay on their own. We like to encourage independent and confident students.

If I join, am I tied into FCL for a set amount of time?

No, not at all. FCL is primarily a long term programme, not a 'quick fix'. However, there are many reasons why you may need to stop, so I just ask for a month's notice.
