Maths and English Tuition at Battersea

Welcome to the Battersea First Class Learning Centre!

Conveniently located at St Michael’s Church, just off the Northcote Road, we welcome students of all ages and abilities from 4 to 16 to take part in our comprehensive and powerful learning programmes. Designed to meet the specification of the national curriculum we offer tuition in English, maths and science.

Oliver Ignotus, the centre manager, if a fully qualified teacher with over ten years teaching experience in a variety of classroom environments, including at some of the countries top performing academic schools. He has a passion for helping students develop their understanding and gain independence through reinforcing best practise.

How we work

Before enrolling, each student completes a free skills assessment to ascertain their current level, this will typically take place at home or in a mutually convenient location. Having provided feedback on the strengths and areas of improvement, a personalised program is recommended to meet your child’s needs and help them improve. Having enrolled, your child will attend a weekly session at our learning centre and be given daily, bite sized homework to build consistency and consolidate their learning.

FAQ

How does FCL differ to 1:1 tutoring?
FCL offers structure and daily practice, with a ‘little and often’ approach, enabling the child to retain what they have learnt and gain confidence with ease. It also develops good study habits and independent learning so that they don’t become dependent on others teaching them.
How will FCL help with my child’s school work?
By filling in any gaps they may have and developing their confidence we can change their attitude to a positive one and at the same time give them the skill sets needed to carry through to all school work.
Can I sit with my child while they do their work at the centre?
If your child is worried about coming into their first session, parents can come in to begin with but you won’t need to stay for long. Once they see the friendly faces and welcoming atmosphere, they are happy to stay on their own. We like to encourage independent and confident students.
If I join, am I tied into FCL for a set amount of time?
No, not at all. FCL is primarily a long term programme, not a 'quick fix'. However, there are many reasons why you may need to stop, so I just ask for a month's notice.
