Maths and English Tuition at Leominster

Welcome to First Class Learning Leominster, where children learn and succeed in a safe and secure environment. We are delighted to support children in the local community, catering for all ages (4-16 years old) and abilities, with both maths and English tuition.

Tutoring has been shown to have a positive impact on pupils’ academic progress, in fact small group tutoring can lead to up to 4 months additional progress. Such progression can be attributed to pupils receiving detailed feedback which supports their next steps; it is engaging; and they complete work which is tailored to their specific needs and areas of development.

Through our structured approach, each child’s learning path ensures any existing gaps in their understanding are addressed. This is alongside promoting the development of existing knowledge and further developing their skills, knowledge and understanding across the English and maths curricula. This not only helps with their schoolwork, but also builds confidence and self-esteem whilst progressing independent learning skills.

Our maths and English programmes are flexible and meet each learner’s individual needs and abilities, so students move on only when they are confident with a topic. Regular assessment ensures that the best possible progress is made. The 'little and often' approach, with plenty of repetition and practice, really does make a huge difference.

We are in the process of becoming Ofsted registered. Once fully registered, are policies and procedures will be certified as being fully aligned with the Ofsted regulations. This will also enable the opportunity for parents, carers and guardians to use working tax credit and childcare vouchers to fund most of the tuition fees, thus ensuring all children can access tuition.

How we work

Our First Class Learning Leominster’s Centre Manager, Sarah, will call you to discuss how we can help your child with maths and English. She will then assist your child to complete a FREE maths and English assessment to determine which path is most suitable for them. Once your child's assessments are complete, feedback will be given on their strengths and areas to improve. Additionally, a bespoke, personalised learning programme will be created to meet your child’s needs which will support and encourage your child's learning. If you feel happy with our plan and that we are the best option for you and your child, you enrol. Once enrolled, your child will then attend the Leominster tuition centre once a week. At the centre, your child will be supported as they work through their personalised learning programme. Between their weekly centre visit, they will also receive a programme of daily bite-size homework tasks to be completed before the next class. This will further embed and consolidate learning from the centre.

Tuition Services

Maths

The First Class Learning maths programme is designed to equip your child with the fundamental skills required for success in school mathematics. Using a range of resources, it covers all the essential areas of the school curriculum. We can help your child from the age of 4/5 up to GCSE level.

English

Our English programme concentrates on reading, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, punctuation, creative writing and handwriting. The initial diagnostic testing assesses the child's needs so that we can provide an individualised programme. We can help from Reception up to GCSE level.

Exam Preparation

Tuition support is also available for pupils accessing 11+ and 13+ entrance exams. This is through using First Class Learning’s maths and English programmes alongside specific 11+/13+ resources, along with past and mock exam papers to enable pupils to confidently meet the demands and requirements of the different examination boards. Both Verbal Reasoning and Non-Verbal Reasoning tuition support is also offered.

FAQ

How does FCL differ to 1:1 tutoring?
FCL offers structure and daily practice with a ‘little and often’ approach, enabling the child to retain what they have learnt and gain confidence. It also develops a good study habit and independent learning rather than becoming dependent upon others teaching them.
How will FCL help with my child’s school work?
By bridging gaps and developing confidence, a child’s attitude can become more positive, whilst at the same time our programmes provide them with the skills sets required to transfer through to their school studies.
Can I sit with my child while they do their work at the centre?
If a child is worried about coming along to their first session, we will work with parents to settle them in. However, you will not need to stay for long as once a child has experienced the friendly and welcoming atmosphere, they are happy to stay on their own. We aim to encourage independent and confident students.
If I join, am I tied into FCL for a set amount of time?
No, not at all. FCL is primarily a long-term programme, not a ‘quick fix’. However, there are many reasons why you may need to discontinue, so I ask for just 1 month’s notice.
