Maths and English Tuition at Liverpool South

Welcome to the Liverpool South First Class Learning Study Centre. We support children in the local community with maths, English and science tuition.

At FCL, our powerful learning programmes are designed to meet the objectives of the National Curriculum and we cater for learners from both primary (KS1 and KS2) and secondary (KS3 and KS4) school stages.

We offer a free initial assessment with our Centre Manager who will create personalised maths, English and science programmes, tailored to your child's individual needs and targeted to fill any existing gaps in their understanding. This builds their confidence and develops independent learning skills, providing a boost to their school work.

Our maths and English programmes are flexible and tailored to learners' individual needs and abilities so students move on only when they are confident with a topic. Regular testing ensures that the best possible progress is made.

Sessions at our centre combined with bite-sized daily homework reinforce learning in a manageable and fun way. Our ‘pen and paper’ approach boosts cognitive process making it more effective than online programmes. This also makes reviewing work and talking through corrections easier as well as improving handwriting and clear presentation of work.

Our centre is Ofsted registered so you can be confident that your child will be educated within a safe and secure environment.

How we work

Our First Class Learning Centre Manager will call you to discuss how we can help your child with maths and English. They will then assist your child to complete an assessment to determine which path is most suitable for them. Once we have established your child's needs, we will put together a bespoke course of action that will support and encourage your child's learning. If you feel happy with our plan and that we are the best option for you and your child, they will then be able to start attending regular classes at the centre. In these classes they will complete a work on a new topic which will be marked, returned and discussed with the tutor, who will give them a detailed programme of homework to be completed before the next class.

FAQ

Which ages does First Class Learning support?
Our programmes are designed for children in Reception (age 4) through to GCSE students. The sooner children begin, the earlier they can develop their skills to gain the greatest cumulative benefit. We have found that if children can develop confidence in their learning from a younger age, that tends to stay with them throughout their school life.
How will First Class Learning Help my Child with their schoolwork?
Our materials develop key skills in maths, science and English building long-lasting confidence and helping learners to become secure in their subjects. Our maths and English programmes are written by qualified and experienced subject specialists and are designed around the learning outcomes of the current National Curriculum. Through a combination of time at the study centre and short pieces of daily homework, your child will grow in confidence and success, learning at a pace that is suitable for them. Additionally, our worksheets are printed on light blue paper with a matte finish, helping to reduce the visual stress experienced by some learners with specific learning difficulties.
How often does an FCL student attend the Liverpool centre and for how long?
Students will attend the centre for support and guidance by qualified tutors who will both introduce new topics and check progress on previous work. Class lasts for about 45 minuities per subject. Students will receive structured, personalised daily worksheets to practice at home in order to build on and consolidate the learning in the centre. Through centre tuition, daily practice and the pen and paper approach, progress is maximised and your child will soon feel more confidence about their learning.
How will my child’s progress be recorded and recognised?
Students take regular progress tests at the middle and end of units, for which they will receive certificates. Students also have the opportunity to gain recognition through ‘Student of the Month’ awards for their progress in maths, science or English. Each child will also have their own reward chart and enjoy colleting stickers for successful completion of class and homework with a reward every 6 weeks as well as a voucher after a year with us. The greatest reward, however, is the confidence they gain from knowing that they can take on learning – and win!
