Maths and English Tuition at Peterborough South

Welcome to the Peterborough South First Class Learning Centre. Ruth Ekblom, Centre Manager, has been running highly successful after-school maths and English classes since 2013.

Students attend our study centre at the Church of Christ the Servant King, Silver Hill, Hampton PE7 8FF. We support children from Foundation level through to Key Stage 3 with both maths and English tuition. We also offer 11-plus preparation where appropriate. Students are provided with an individualised, structured daily plan of study.

Our Centre Managers support each child's learning path in maths and English, targeting gaps or weakness in knowledge. This builds children’s confidence and helps with their school studies while developing independent learning skills, skills that are of great benefit in today’s busy school life.

Our English and maths programmes are tailored to learners' individual needs so students move on only when they are confident with a topic. At First Class Learning we believe in 1% steps leading to 100% success.

How we work

Ruth will initially discuss with you how we can help your child with maths or English, or both. She will then complete an assessment of your child to determine which path is most suitable for them. Once your child's needs are established, we will put together a bespoke course of action that will support and encourage your child's learning, enabling them to gain in confidence and fill in gaps they may have in their learning. If you feel happy with our plan, and feel that our First Class Learning is the best option for you and your child, tuition can begin. Usually, your child will be able to start attending regular classes at the centre where they will complete some work which will be checked, returned and discussed with the Centre Manager. We will then give them a detailed programme of homework to be completed before the next class.

FAQ

How is FCL different from 1-to-1 tutoring?
FCL offers structure and practice with a ‘little and often’ approach, enabling the child to retain what they have learnt and gain confidence. It also develops a good study habit and independent learning rather than a child becoming dependent upon others teaching them.
How does FCL help with schoolwork?
FCL worksheets build on existing knowledge, and fill gaps in knowledge and learning. This boosts confidence and adds to skills used in school.
Is there car parking at the centre?
Yes, the car park is located behind the church, off Braymere Road.
If my child joins FCL, am I tied in for a long time?
No – it’s not like that. FCL is primarily a long-term programme, not a quick fix. However, there may be reasons why you want your child to stop attending. All I require is four weeks’ notice of this.
