My son needed a bit of extra focus on Maths to be sure to secure an A in his approaching Maths GCSE so we contacted Kenny who responded immediately (unlike the other tutor we also tried who took 3 weeks to respond). It was very soon clear that Kenny was a good investment as he was able to help out on all sciences too so we committed to 10 weeks and swapped the subjects by week as was needed. What really made the difference was his help around exam technique and his invaluable support between sessions with links to past papers and feedback on school papers to get his help on. We’re yet to get the exam results back but my son says that he was definitely more confident on his papers as a result of Kenny’s help and managed to answer a whole section in his maths paper than he wouldn’t have been able to do at all if it hadn’t been for his work with Kenny! The results are yet to come in, so fingers crossed. We’d definitely use Kenny again. Lawrence got an A in his Maths retake! “

How we work

Our First Class Learning Centre Managers, Kenny and Michelle Olowu, will call you to discuss how we can help your child with maths, English or science. Your child will then be assisted to complete an assessment to determine which path is most suitable. Once we have established your child's needs, we will put together a bespoke course of action that will support and encourage your child's learning. This assessment can happen at a mutually-convenient location, or online. If you feel happy with our plan and that we are the best option for you and your child, they will then be able to start attending regular classes at the centre or online. In these classes they will complete a short piece of work which will be marked, returned and discussed with the Centre Manager(s), who will give them a detailed programme of homework to be completed to further embed and consolidate their learning from the centre before the next class. During each learning session, your child will be supported as they work through their personalised learning programme.

FAQ

How does FCL differ to 1:1 tutoring?
FCL offers structure and daily practice, with a ‘little and often’ approach, enabling the child to retain what they have learnt and gain confidence with ease. It also develops good study habits and independent learning so that they don’t become dependent on others teaching them.
How will FCL help with my child’s school work?
By filling in any gaps they may have and developing their confidence we can change their attitude to a positive one and at the same time give them the skill sets needed to carry through to all school work.
Can I sit with my child while they do their work at the centre?
If your child is worried about coming into their first session, parents can come in to begin with but you won’t need to stay for long. Once they see the friendly faces and welcoming atmosphere, they are happy to stay on their own. We like to encourage independent and confident students.
If I join, am I tied into FCL for a set amount of time?
FCL is primarily a long term programme, not a 'quick fix'. However, there are many reasons why you may need to stop, so I just ask for a month's notice.
