Maths and English Tuition at Twickenham

Welcome to the Twickenham First Class Learning Centre. We support children in the local community with maths, English, science, SATs and 11-plus tuition.

Through our structured programmes, we personalise each child’s learning path, which is targeted to fill any existing gaps in their understanding and promote development of existing knowledge. This helps with their schoolwork, builds confidence, and develops independent learning skills.

Our programmes are flexible and tailored to learners' individual needs and abilities, so students move on only when they are confident with a topic. Regular testing ensures that the best possible progress is made. The 'little and often' approach, with plenty of repetition and practice, really does make a huge difference.

How we work

Our First Class Learning Centre Manager will call you to discuss how we can help your child with maths, English, and science. They will then assist your child to complete an assessment to determine which path is most suitable for them. Once we have established your child's needs, we will put together a bespoke course of action that will support and encourage your child's learning. We offer weekly sessions for each subject, with each session lasting 30 to 60 minutes. The monthly fee is £80, which is just £20 per session. A one-time registration fee of £40 will also be charged to cover the cost of a First Class Learning bag and stationery.

First Class Learning Twickenham is run by Dr Artin Backtash-Rad, who is a world-known senior educator, scholar, academic, and thought leader in the education system. Dr Backtash-Rad is one of the most sought-after speakers and education gurus. Artin received his doctorate from the University of London and his master's degree from Carleton University, Canada. Dr Backtash-Rad is a senior member/fellow of some of the most prestigious education institutes in the world including but not limited to the Academy of Management, British Academy of Management, Academy of International Business, Advanced Higher Education, Euro-Asia Management Studies Association, and Charter Association of Business Schools. Dr Backtash-Rad is fully trained to deliver the First Class Learning study programmes. Every First Class Learning Centre Manager holds an enhanced DBS certificate.

Maths

The First Class Learning maths programme is designed to equip your child with the fundamental skills required for success in school mathematics. Using a range of resources, it covers all the essential areas of the school curriculum.

English

Our English programme concentrates on reading, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, punctuation, creative writing and handwriting. The initial diagnostic testing assesses the child's needs so that we can provide an individualised programme.

Science

Our comprehensive science programme will develop your child's knowledge and the skills required as part of their school curriculum. The programme has a proven record for improving results and encourages enjoyment in learning.

FAQ

How does FCL differ to 1:1 tutoring?

FCL offers structure and daily practice, with a ‘little and often’ approach, enabling the child to retain what they have learnt and gain confidence with ease. It also develops good study habits and independent learning so that they don’t become dependent on others teaching them.

How will FCL help with my child’s school work?

By filling in any gaps they may have and developing their confidence we can change their attitude to a positive one and at the same time give them the skill sets needed to carry through to all school work.

Can I sit with my child while they do their work at the centre?

If your child is worried about coming into their first session, parents can come in to begin with but you won’t need to stay for long. Once they see the friendly faces and welcoming atmosphere, they are happy to stay on their own. We like to encourage independent and confident students.

If I join, am I tied into FCL for a set amount of time?

No, not at all. FCL is primarily a long term programme, not a 'quick fix'. However, there are many reasons why you may need to stop, so I just ask for a month's notice.
