FCL have personalised lesson plans for maths and English as per your child's requirements. I see positive improvements in both of my children’s writing skills and maths. I used to worry a lot about their learning but that has been taken away. Please send your children there if you want them to be confident in school and in everyday life.

Maths and English Tuition at Gants Hill

Welcome to the Gants Hill First Class Learning Centre, where we support children in the local community with both maths and English tuition. Our centre-based programmes begin from Reception through to KS4. They completely mirror the National Curriculum and prepare your child towards achieving their best possible grades during 7-plus, 11-plus, termly tests, SATs exams and GCSEs.

During the initial process of enrolling, your child is assessed. This is used as a baseline mark, which highlights any weaknesses and also shows us your child's strengths, which enables us to create an individualised programme that is tailored to consolidate your child's existing knowledge and develop the skills they lack.

New tasks and concepts are tackled each week during the lesson, where they are taught in a simple yet in-depth manner. Homework is set on a weekly basis so the student can solidify the new skills they learn, which is then marked and any corrections are reviewed during the following lesson. Students will only move on to start a new topic when they are confident in said topic.

At First Class Learning we believe in 1% steps to 100% success.

How we work

Our First Class Learning Centre Manager will call you to discuss how we can help your child with maths or English. They will then assist your child to complete an assessment to determine which path is most suitable for them. Once we have established your child's needs, we will put together a bespoke course of action that will support and encourage your child's learning. If you feel happy with our plan and that we are the best option for you and your child, they will then be able to start attending regular classes at the centre or online. In these classes they will complete a short piece of work which will be marked, returned and discussed with the Centre Manager, who will give them a detailed programme of homework to be completed before the next class.

Tuition Services

Maths

Our maths programme is designed to equip your child with the fundamental skills required for success in school mathematics. Using a range of resources, it covers all the essential areas of the school curriculum. Mental maths skills are developed through introducing the number bonds, multiplication and division techniques. In addition to basic operations, we also cover topics such as fractions, decimals, percentages, basic algebra, geometry, HCF & LCM, shapes, measurements, statistics, reasoning questions and word problems. When our students move to KS3, we completely mirror the curriculum at this point, with emphasis on the specific topics they complete at school on a weekly basis. As the GCSE exam is a culmination of all the topics learnt since Year 7, exam practice is a priority here, especially time management. We introduce the A-A* topics and often complete exam style questions from several exam boards to expose our students to different exam styles.

English

Our English programme aims to develop the basic skills of reading, writing and spelling to comprehension and creative writing. First Class Learning English Programme follows principles that make it ideal for all learners, whether primary or secondary. Initially, we focus on developing an understanding of phonics, neat handwriting, spelling, grammar and basic comprehension and story writing. We continue towards improving the student's comprehension and creative writing skills, as well as developing a more sophisticated vocabulary. When our students move to KS3, we introduce and develop their PEE techniques, ensuring they have a strong and sophisticated voice in their writing. We also stress on different techniques that enhance a piece of writing, this is done through analysis of fiction/non-fictional texts and poems. To prepare for GCSEs we focus on the texts chosen by the student's school, we perfect their skills in regards to PEE, creative, persuasive and transactional writing.

Science

Our comprehensive science programme will develop your child's knowledge and the skills required as part of their school curriculum. The programme has a proven record for improving results and encourages enjoyment in learning.
