My daughter attended FCL and then did 11+ preparation with Sejal. She passed her exams and learned so much that I didn't even know she was capable of!! All thanks to Sejal's hard work, guidance and personal approach.

Maths and English Tuition at Hillingdon

Welcome to the Hillingdon First Class Learning Centre. We support children and adults in the local community with both maths and English tuition.

Students of all ages attend our study centre on a Wednesday for around 20-30 minutes per subject. In these classes they will hand in their previous week of work and complete that day's worksheets which will be marked, returned and discussed with the tutor. They are then set a programme of work of 10-15 minutes per day to do at home, practising what they have learnt in the class to ensure mastery and fluency at each step.

Through our structured programmes, we personalise each child’s learning path, which is targeted to fill any existing gaps in their understanding and promote development of existing knowledge. This helps with their schoolwork, builds confidence, and develops independent learning skills.

Our English and maths programmes are flexible and tailored to learners' individual needs and abilities so students move on only when they are confident with a topic. Regular testing ensures that the best possible progress is made. The 'little and often' approach, with plenty of repetition and practice, really does make a huge difference.

How we work

The first step is to arrange a convenient time for your child to complete some initial assessments. These are done via a video call. The Centre Manager, Sejal, will discuss how she can help your child with their maths or English. An individualised programme is put together that will support and encourage your child's learning enabling them to gain confidence and fill in gaps that they may have. Your child can then start completing the daily worksheets with ongoing support from the Centre Manager whenever it is needed. Our programme is a partnership between First Class Learning, your child and you as parents so communication between all is important. We encourage all parents to mark the homework daily so that corrections can be made as they go through the week and their progress will be seen in the results. If they have any problems with the work, you can call Sejal at anytime between 9:00 and 6:00, Monday to Friday.

FAQ

How does FCL differ to 1:1 tutoring?
FCL offers structure and daily practice, with a ‘little and often’ approach, enabling the child to retain what they have learnt & gain confidence with ease. It also develops good study habits and independent learning so that they don’t become dependent on others teaching them.
How will FCL help with my child’s school work?
By filling in any gaps they may have and developing their confidence we can change their attitude to a positive one and at the same time give them the skill sets needed to carry through to all school work.
Can I sit with my child while they do their work at the centre?
If your child is worried about coming into their first session, parents can come in to begin with but you won’t need to stay for long. Once they see the friendly faces and welcoming atmosphere, they are happy to stay on their own. We like to encourage independent and confident students.
If I join, am I tied into FCL for a set amount of time?
No, not at all. FCL is primarily a long term programme, not a 'quick fix'. However, there are many reasons why you may need to stop, so I just ask for a month's notice.
