Maths and English Tuition at Jordanhill

Welcome to First Class Learning Jordanhill, where children learn to succeed. My name is Louise and I would love to be part of your child’s educational journey. I have been working with children of all ages for over 10 years, with more than 6 years of experience delivering maths and English tuition.

Children from the age of 4 are welcome to attend our centre weekly for about 30 minutes per subject where they will receive individual instruction, return completed homework and receive new homework. The homework we set will take between 10-30 minutes each day and will practice what they have learnt in class, ensuring proficiency and fluency at each step.

We personalise each child’s learning path, ensuring that their individual learning journey is designed to target any existing gaps in their understanding and promote development of existing knowledge. This helps with their schoolwork, builds confidence and develops independent learning skills which can be applied to many areas of their lives.

Our maths and English programmes are flexible and tailored to learners' individual needs and abilities, so students move on only when they are confident with a topic. Regular testing ensures that the best possible progress is made. The 'little and often' approach, with plenty of repetition and practice, really does make a huge difference.

How we work

After initial contact has been made, Louise will call you to discuss how we can help your child with maths and English. We will arrange a free assessment where Louise will assist your child to complete diagnostic tests to determine which path is most suitable for them. Once we have established your child's needs, we will put together a bespoke course of action that will support and encourage your child's learning. If you feel happy with our plan and that we are the best option for you and your child, they will then be able to start attending regular classes at the centre. In these classes they will complete a short piece of work which will be marked, returned and discussed with the Centre Manager, who will give them a detailed programme of homework to be completed before the next class.

Using a range of resources, it covers all the essential areas of the school curriculum. It builds upon prior learning ensuring concepts are embedded before moving on.

FAQ

How does FCL differ to 1:1 tutoring?
FCL offers structure and daily practice with a ‘little and often’ approach, enabling the child to retain what they have learnt and gain confidence. It also develops a good study habit and independent learning rather than becoming dependent upon others teaching them.
How will FCL help with my child’s school work?
By bridging gaps and developing confidence, a child’s attitude can become more positive, whilst at the same time our programmes provide them with the skills sets required to transfer through to their school studies.
Can I sit with my child while they do their work at the centre?
If a child is worried about coming along to their first session, we will work with parents to settle them in. However, you will not need to stay for long as once a child has experienced the friendly and welcoming atmosphere, they are happy to stay on their own. We aim to encourage independent and confident students.
Will my child be working with others of a similar age?
Your child will either be working independently or with one-to-one support. There is no group work as it is an individual programme of study.
