Sejal really helped my son build his confidence and has become very comfortable in tackling any test. She has given my son a very good foundation in both English and Maths with regular weekly homework just enough for my son to enjoy doing them. She is a very patient and honest with both parents and students. Highly recommended!

Maths and English Tuition at Purley

Welcome to the Purley First Class Learning Centre. Sejal Littlebury has been running after-school maths and English classes for over 10 years.

The First Class Learning materials are suitable for children studying Key Stage 1 (KS1) through to Key Stage 3 (KS3). The resources are pen and paper based and since they follow the National Curriculum, they provide a solid foundation for the 11-plus, SATs tests or school exams.

Through our structured programmes, Sejal individualises each child’s learning path, which is targeted to fill any existing gaps in their understanding. This helps with school work, builds confidence and develops independent learning skills, through regular practice along with guidance, support and encouragement from the centre manager and staff, something that is extremely important in today’s busy classrooms in school.

Our maths and English programmes are flexible and tailored to learners’ individual needs and abilities so students move on only when they are confident with a topic whilst not repeating subject matter they have already mastered at school.

How we work

The first step is to call the Centre Manager to discuss how we can help your child with maths or English and to arrange a convenient time for an assessment. Sejal will then assist your child to complete an assessment which will enable us to put together a bespoke course of action that will support and encourage your child's learning. It will fill in any gaps in their knowledge, enabling them to gain confidence and continue to build on their skills. In the classes they will complete a short piece of work which will be marked and returned. Support is provided to ensure that the work is understood and feedback is provided to help improve skills. A detailed programme of homework is provided, to be completed before the next class. Regular testing ensures that the work has been understood and your child is ready to move on, whilst also ensuring that unnecessary repetition of work that has already been mastered is avoided.

Tuition Services

Maths

Our maths programme focuses on building confidence and mastery of key topics, filling in any gaps that could be holding your child back. The work follows the National Curriculum and therefore is presented to your child in a way that is consistent with school. Children are able to progress beyond their school level, if they are capable of doing so and the work is tailored to each individual child’s needs.

English

Our English programme concentrates on reading, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, punctuation, comprehensions and creative writing as well as handwriting. The initial diagnostic testing assesses the child’s needs so that we can provide an individualised programme.

FAQ

How does FCL differ to 1:1 tutoring?
FCL offers structure and regular practise, with a ‘little and often’ approach, enabling the child to retain what they have learned and gain confidence. It also develops good study habits and independent learning which are important skills that will help them throughout their education.
How will FCL help with my child’s schoolwork and in exams?
Since the materials are based on the National Curriculum, they are very closely aligned to your child’s schoolwork. As a result, by filling in any gaps in their knowledge, they progress, develop confidence and a positive attitude. We work on an individualised programme, at their pace to enable them to move ahead.
How long will my child be in class?
Approximately half an hour per subject, however, this will vary depending on what work they are doing in class.
If I join FCL, how long am I tied in for?
FCL is a long-term programme, not a ‘quick fix’. However, people’s circumstances change and there may be many reasons why you need to stop, so I ask for one calendar month’s notice.
