Maths & English Tuition in Weston Super Mare

COVID-19 UPDATE:- The centre is now fully open and is following UK government guidelines to create a secure learning environment for your child.

Welcome to the Weston-super-Mare First Class Learning Study Centre. Rachel Holdom, centre manager, has been running highly successful after-school maths and English classes for over 23 years (12 years Kumon). The FCL programme follows the UK National Curriculum and supports children in the local community with both maths and English tuition. It helps to boost confidence and to fill any gaps in their knowledge, ensuring skills are built up to a high standard. Monthly fees are just £55 per month for the first subject and £50 for a second subject. Sibling fees are £55 per month. There is a one off registration fee of £30.

Through individualised programmes, our expert tutors support your child's learning in maths, English or both subjects together in order to help with their school studies, build

confidence and develop independent learning skills, something that is extremely important in today's busy classrooms in schools.

Our English and maths programmes are flexible and tailored to learners' individual needs and abilities so students move on only when they are confident with a topic. Regular testing ensures that the best possible progress is made. The 'little and often' approach, with plenty of repetition and practise, really does make a huge difference.

Inside The Venue

Students of all ages attend our study centre held at The Campus in Weston on a Thursday for around 20-30 minutes per subject. They are then set a programme of work of 10-15 minutes per day, practising what they have learnt in the class to ensure mastery and fluency at each step. We cater for learners from reception in primary and preparing for SATS, through to secondary school and the GCSE exams. The FCL programme is also being run in many schools throughout the UK.

Tuition Services

One of our First Class Learning tutors will meet with you to discuss how we can help your child with maths or English. They will then sit down with your child and complete an assessment to determine which path is most suitable for them. Once we have established your child’s needs, we will put together a bespoke course of action that will support and encourage your child’s learning.

Math

Our maths programme focuses on building confidence and mastery of key topics, filling in any gaps in their knowledge that could be holding them back at school. They are able to progress beyond their school level if they are capable of doing so and the work is tailored to each individual child's needs.

English

Our English programme concentrates on reading, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, punctuation, creative writing and handwriting. The initial diagnostic testing assesses the child's needs and so that we can provide an individualised programme.

Science

This course is designed to address the requirements of KS3 Science in the National Curriculum covering Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Although it is aimed at students in Years 7-9, students in the upper half of primary school, who have a good level of reading comprehension, can successfully learn science with this material.

How it works

We’ll chat – either on the phone or over email, to discuss how we can help your child with maths or English.

The next step is to come along to our centre in Swinton. Harriet will sit down with your child and they’ll complete an assessment, so we can work out which of our paths is the most suitable for them. We work as hard as possible so that this doesn’t feel like an exam or a test – it’s just a friendly way of us getting to know our students.

The next step is to put together a bespoke plan that will support and encourage your child’s learning. If you’re happy with this, they will be able to start attending regular classes with us.

In their classes, children complete a short piece of work which will be marked, returned and talked through with one of our Tutors, who will give them a programme of homework to complete before they next join us. Most important of all, we make learning as fun as possible.

Our assessments are free, so we can each work out whether our First Class Learning sessions are the right path for your child.
