FCL have personalised lesson plans for maths and English as per your child's requirements. I see positive improvements in both of my children’s writing skills and maths. I used to worry a lot about their learning but that has been taken away. Please send your children there if you want them to be confident in school and in everyday life.

Maths and English Tuition at Chessington

Welcome to the Chessington First Class Learning Centre. We support children in the local community with both maths and English tuition.

The Centre Manager, Rachita, ensures that each student is provided with an individualised, structured study plan to keep their learning path targeted to fill any existing gaps in their understanding. She works on a 1:1 basis to make sure that the student is provided with enough practice and knowledge before they embark on their personalised study plan and can work independently. Regular assessments and detailed feedback ensure that the best possible progress is made.

We cater for learners from Early Years and Primary through to GCSE.

Our English and maths programmes are tailored to learners' individual needs so students move on only when they are confident with a topic.

How we work

First things first, we need to arrange an appointment at a convenient time for your child to go through some initial assessments, 'diagnostic tests' for maths, English or both. The Centre Manager, Rachita, will then arrange a face-to-face appointment or a video call (dependent on the COVID situation) where she will complete an assessment with your child. You will then be provided with detailed feedback based on the diagnostic test. You will also have an opportunity to discuss your areas of concern about your child. Rachita will then put together a personalised plan to support and encourage your child's learning. Your child will then be able to start attending regular classes on a weekly basis and complete the daily homework. The Centre Manager will be available with any ongoing support whenever it is needed. Our Programme is team work between First Class Learning, your child and you as a parent, therefore communication between all is important. We encourage all parents to mark the homework daily so that the corrections can be made and any mistakes noticed quickly rather than accumulating to be dealt with later.

FAQ

How does FCL differ to 1:1 tutoring?
FCL offers structure and daily practice, with a ‘little and often’ approach, enabling the child to retain what they have learnt & gain confidence with ease. It also develops good study habits and independent learning so that they don’t become dependent on others teaching them.
Can I sit with my child while they do their work at the centre?
If your child is worried about coming into their first session, parents can come in to begin with but you won’t need to stay for long. Once they see the friendly faces and welcoming atmosphere, they are happy to stay on their own. We like to encourage independent and confident students.
How will FCL help with my child’s school work?
By filling in any gaps they may have and developing their confidence we can change their attitude to a positive one and at the same time give them the skill sets needed to carry through to all school work.
If I join, am I tied into FCL for a set amount of time?
No, not at all. FCL is primarily a long-term programme, not a 'quick fix'. However, there are many reasons why you may need to stop, so I just ask for a month's notice.
