Welcome to the Chester-le-Street First Class Learning Centre. We support children and adults in the local community with both Maths and English tuition. we believe that education is a journey, and we are dedicated to accompanying students every step of the way. From learning to read and write to sitting exams and every step in between.

We understand that every student is unique, with their own learning style and challenges. That's why we are here to provide the guidance and support they need to reach their full academic potential. Julia has extensive experience with learning challenges such as dyslexia, ASD and ADHD working with students of all levels and has a diversely skilled team of tutors available for extra support. Take the first step toward first-class learning and academic excellence and contact us today.

Through our structured programmes, we personalise each child’s learning path, which is targeted to fill any existing gaps in their understanding and promote the development of existing knowledge. This helps with their schoolwork, builds confidence, and develops independent learning skills.

Our Maths and English programmes are flexible and tailored to learners' individual needs and abilities, so students move at their own pace. Regular homework ensures that the best possible progress is made. The 'little and often' approach, with plenty of staged repetition and practice, mixed with skill application really does make a huge difference.

How we work

Our First Class Learning Centre Manager will call you to discuss how we can help your child with maths and English. Diagnostic Assessments can be arranged to be done at our wonderful venue. They will then assist your child to complete an assessment to determine which path is most suitable for them. Once we have established your child's needs, we will put together a bespoke course of action that will support and encourage your child's learning. If you enrol, your child will attend the Chester-le-Street tuition centre once a week. At the centre, your child will be supported as they work through their personalised learning programme. Between their weekly centre visit, they will also receive a programme of daily bitesize homework tasks to further embed and consolidate the learning from the centre. Should help be needed in the week, our team of tutors can be contacted via email or arrange a call to go over topics or direct to resources.

FAQ

How does FCL differ to 1:1 tutoring?
FCL offers structure and daily practice, with a ‘little and often’ approach, enabling the child to retain what they have learnt and gain confidence with ease. It also develops good study habits and independent learning so that they don’t become dependent on others teaching them.
How will FCL help with my child’s school work?
By filling in any gaps they may have and developing their confidence we can change their attitude to a positive one and at the same time give them the skill sets needed to carry through to all school work.
Can I sit with my child while they do their work at the centre?
If your child is worried about coming into their first session, parents can come in to begin with but you won’t need to stay for long. Once they see the friendly faces and welcoming atmosphere, they are happy to stay on their own. We like to encourage independent and confident students.
If I join, am I tied into FCL for a set amount of time?
No, not at all. FCL is primarily a long term programme, not a 'quick fix'. However, there are many reasons why you may need to stop, so I just ask for a month's notice.
