Maths and English Tuition in Hillingdon

Welcome to the Hayes North First Class Learning Study Centre. Sejal Patel, centre manager, has been running highly successful after-school maths and English classes for over 10 years.

COVID-19 UPDATE:- We continue to offer support remotely with weekly virtual online classes, via video support or phone calls and the daily worksheets are posted to you. Due to the Coronavirus, the centre sessions are temporarily closed. However, all students can still make the same progress as if they were coming to the class.

Students of all ages are provided with a structured and individualised daily plan of study of around 10-15 minutes per day. Support is given whenever it is needed by a video call or phone call and weekly results are collected to ensure mastery and fluency.

The individualised programme is targeted to fill any existing gaps in their understanding. This therefore helps with their school work, builds confidence and develops independent learning skills, something that is extremely important in today's busy classrooms in schools.

Our English and maths programmes are flexible and tailored to learners' individual needs and abilities so students move on only when they are confident with a topic. Regular testing ensures that the best possible progress is made. The 'little and often' approach, with plenty of repetition and practise, really does make a huge difference.

How It Works

The first step is to arrange a convenient time for your child to complete some initial assessments. These are done via a video call. The Centre Manager, Sejal, will discuss how she can help your child with their maths or English. An individualised programme is put together that will support and encourage your child's learning enabling them to gain confidence and fill in gaps that they may have. Your child can then start completing the daily worksheets with ongoing support from the Centre Manager whenever it is needed. Our programme is a partnership between First Class Learning, your child and you as parents so communication between all is important. We encourage all parents to mark the homework daily so that corrections can be made as they go through the week and their progress will be seen in the results. If they have any problems with the work, you can call Sejal at anytime between 9:00 and 6:00, Monday to Friday.

Tuition Services

The First Class Learning maths programme is designed to equip your child with the fundamental skills required for success in school mathematics. Using a range of resources, it covers all the essential areas of the school curriculum.

Our English programme concentrates on reading, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, punctuation, creative writing and handwriting. The initial diagnostic testing assesses the child's needs so that we can provide an individualised programme.

Our 11+ programme is bespoke towards the borough your child is sitting the exams for. We mainly work towards Buckinghamshire and Berkshire exams. The sessions are in small groups of maximum 5 children ensuring each child has the attention to detail they require for their exams. The programme is also tailored towards Independent school entrance exams.

Student Success

My daughter attended FCL and then did 11+ preparation with Sejal. She passed her exams and learned so much that I didn't even know she was capable of!! All thanks to Sejal's hard work, guidance and personal approach.

Thank you for the First class learning, especially Big thank you to Mrs Patel, for her support, explanation and patience. It has built strong confidence in my son with his literacy and he has begun to love it. It has helped him get ready for his SATs. Its sad that I had not heard about the classes a couple of year sooner. Highly recommended, as early as you can because it helps to build strong fundamental confidence.

We have worked with many tutors over the years. Sejal is, without question, the best we have had. As a tutor, she understands the subject matter and curriculum requirements. As a mother, she understands children. Over the course of a term of working with Sejal, our daughter went from an average score in her mock SAT to the 2nd highest in the year in her actual SAT. Thanks Sejal, keep up the good work.

How does FCL differ to 1:1 tutoring?
FCL offers structure and daily practice, with a ‘little and often’ approach, enabling the child to retain what they have learnt & gain confidence with ease. It also develops good study habits and independent learning so that they don’t become dependent on others teaching them.
How will FCL help with my child’s school work?
By filling in any gaps they may have and developing their confidence we can change their attitude to a positive one and at the same time give them the skill sets needed to carry through to all school work.
Can I sit with my child while they do their work at the centre?
If your child is worried about coming into their first session, parents can come in to begin with but you won’t need to stay for long. Once they see the friendly faces and welcoming atmosphere, they are happy to stay on their own. We like to encourage independent and confident students.
If I join, am I tied into FCL for a set amount of time?
No, not at all. FCL is primarily a long term programme, not a 'quick fix'. However, there are many reasons why you may need to stop, so I just ask for a month's notice.
