Maths and English Tuition at Ravenscourt Park

Welcome to the Ravenscourt Park Learning Centre! Students of all ages attend our dedicated tuition centre in the heart of Hammersmith. Our powerful learning programmes are designed to meet the objectives of the National Curriculum and we cater for learners aged 4 to 16 years old.

We know choosing a tuition provider is a big decision, so our maths and English tuition programmes answer the needs of both children and parents. Established for over 15 years, helping thousands of students across the UK, we give you peace of mind.

Unlike many other after-school tuition options, our courses have been designed in the UK to align with the National Curriculum. This ensures everything your child learns will directly help them at school, avoiding any confusion with weird maths techniques or irrelevant English tasks.

Every child who wants to join us completes a free maths and English assessment with Becky George, the Centre Manager. Becky is a qualified teacher with over 20 years experience. Becky will provide detailed feedback and create personalised maths and English learning programmes that target your child's individual learning needs.

We also offer additional personalised packages for students taking entrance exams, SATs and GCSEs. These programmes include further time at the centre and the use of exam-relevant past and mock papers to develop exam technique and confidence.

How we work

The Centre Manager, Becky George, will complete a free maths and English assessment with your child and provide informative feedback on their strengths and areas to improve. Becky will also recommend a personalised learning programme to meet your child's needs. If you enrol, your child will attend the tuition centre once a week. At the centre, your child will be supported as they work through their personalised learning programme. Between their weekly centre visit, they will also receive a programme of daily bite-size homework tasks to further embed and consolidate the learning from the centre.

Centre Manager

The Ravenscourt Park First Class Learning Tuition Centre is run by myself, Becky George. I am a qualified, experienced and highly successful teacher, who is fully trained to deliver the First Class Learning study programmes. I hold an Enhanced DBS certificate and am trained in child safeguarding and first aid. I have worked for over twenty years as a qualified teacher, mainly of English, and a private tutor, most recently holding the job of Director of the English faculty at a local school. I have had proven expertise in boosting exam results in some of the most challenging circumstances and have also been an examiner for GCSE. I have also run whole school literacy programmes which have boosted levels of literacy for students of all ages. I am passionate about education, particularly in the core subjects of maths and English and believe that all children have the right to excel and enjoy their learning. I'm excited to be part of your child's journey to becoming a First Class learner!

Maths

The First Class Learning maths programme is designed to equip your child with the fundamental skills required for success in school mathematics. Using a range of resources, it covers all the essential areas of the school curriculum.

English

Our English programme concentrates on reading, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, punctuation, creative writing and handwriting. The initial diagnostic testing assesses the child's needs so that we can provide an individualised programme.

FAQ

How does FCL differ to 1:1 tutoring?

FCL offers structure and daily practice, with a ‘little and often’ approach, enabling the child to retain what they have learnt and gain confidence with ease. It also develops good study habits and independent learning so that they don’t become dependent on others teaching them.

How will FCL help with my child’s school work?

By filling in any gaps they may have and developing their confidence we can change their attitude to a positive one and at the same time give them the skill sets needed to carry through to all school work.

Can I sit with my child while they do their work at the centre?

If your child is worried about coming into their first session, parents can come in to begin with but you won’t need to stay for long. Once they see the friendly faces and welcoming atmosphere, they are happy to stay on their own. We like to encourage independent and confident students.

If I join, am I tied into FCL for a set amount of time?

No, not at all. FCL is primarily a long term programme, not a 'quick fix'. However, there are many reasons why you may need to stop, so I just ask for a month's notice.
