FCL have personalised lesson plans for maths, English and science as per your child's requirements. I see positive improvements in both of my children’s writing skills and maths. I used to worry a lot about their learning but that has been taken away. Please send your children there if you want them to be confident in school and in everyday life.

Maths, English and Science Tuition at Shrewsbury North

Welcome to the Shrewsbury North First Class Learning Centres!

Our newly establish centres are setup with the aim of providing after school Maths, English and Science after school classes, supporting children of all abilities in the local community who are trying to fulfil their potential.

Our programme is designed for students of all ages from KS1 to KS4 who can attend our study centres once a week for one hour per subject.

The First Class Learning’s structured programmes are fully aligned with the National Curriculum, ensuring each child will learn and acquire all essential skills taught within their school year. The foundation of our programme is the repetition of core skills and the application of these skills through exam-style questions, written with the objective of identifying and closing any gaps in understanding. The overall aim is to ensure that students are thoroughly prepared to be successful and excel in their exams. Additionally, our team will work to build confidence and encourage independent learning, both of which are extremely important to a child's educational development.

The team will mostly focus on ensuring that students are confident in all topics, and particularly being able to apply their core skills to word problems, since these are necessary for assessments at school. In addition, tutors will also carry out regular tests at specific times to confirm that the best possible progress is made.

How we work

The first step is to arrange a free assessment at the centre for your child. Once you have made contact, we will arrange a day and time to bring your child in for an assessment. The English and maths diagnostic tests take about 30 minutes each subject. Following your child's assessment, we will let you know a little more about the FCL programme and how everything works .e.g. routines, costs, feedback etc. We offer a 1 week free trial which allows families to confirm that the programme is right for their needs. Using our initial tests and the trial weeks, we will establish the correct starting point for your child to support and encourage your child's learning, enabling them to gain confidence and fill in gaps they may have. During the weekly sessions, students are expected to: 1. return their homework and review the work done from the previous week with a tutor 2. work on and complete new worksheets assigned to them by the tutor 3. Students are then given a set of worksheets of 15-30 minutes of duration per day to do at home, practising what they learned in class to guarantee proficiency and confidence at each stage.

FAQ

How does FCL differ to 1:1 tutoring?
FCL offers structure and daily practice, with a ‘little and often’ approach, enabling the child to retain what they have learnt and gain confidence with ease. It also develops good study habits and independent learning so that they don’t become dependent on others teaching them.
How will FCL help with my child’s school work?
By filling in any gaps they may have and developing their confidence we can change their attitude to a positive one and at the same time give them the skill sets needed to carry through to all school work.
Can I sit with my child while they do their work at the centre?
If your child is worried about coming into their first session, parents can come in to begin with but you won’t need to stay for long. Once they see the friendly faces and welcoming atmosphere, they are happy to stay on their own. We like to encourage independent and confident students.
If I join, am I tied into FCL for a set amount of time?
No, not at all. FCL is primarily a long term programme, not a 'quick fix'. However, there are many reasons why you may need to stop, so I just ask for a month's notice.
