Welcome to the Streatham First Class Learning Study Centre. Nivashnie Padayachee, Centre Manager, a qualified and experienced teacher, has been running highly successful after-school maths, English and science classes for over 5 years.
COVID-19 UPDATE:- In line with recent measures this centre is temporarily closed for face-to-face visits. However, we are still operating and are currently offering remote learning. Our worksheets and supporting handbooks can be sent to your home and your child assisted through online sessions with tutors.
Each child is given an initial assessment which Nivashnie uses to prepare a structured and individualised study plan designed to target and fill any existing gaps in their understanding. This study plan helps children to progress with their school work, builds confidence and develops independent learning skills, something that is extremely important in today's busy classrooms in schools.
Students from ages 5 to 16 are supported with maths and English through the FCL programmes, all of which is based on the National Curriculum. In addition, as a qualified science teacher, Nivashnie also offers science tuition from ages 11 to 16. The study plan includes daily homework of around 15 to 20 minutes per subject per day. 1:1 support is given whenever it is needed by a video call or phone call and weekly results are collected to ensure mastery and fluency.
Our study programmes are flexible and tailored to learners' individual needs and abilities so students move on only when they are confident with a topic. Regular testing ensures that the best possible progress is made. The 'little and often' approach, with plenty of repetition and practise, really does make a huge difference.
The first step is to arrange a convenient time for your child to complete some initial assessments. These are done via a video call due to the current circumstances and will be done in the study centre when we are able to resume face to face sessions. The Centre Manager, Nivashnie, will discuss the results of the assessments with you and explain how she can help your child with their maths or English. Using the results from the assessments, an individualised programme is put together that will support and encourage your child's learning, enabling them to gain confidence and fill in gaps that they may have. Your child can then start completing the daily worksheets with ongoing support from the Centre Manager whenever it is needed. Our programme is a partnership between First Class Learning, your child and you as parents so communication between all is important. We encourage all parents to mark the homework daily so that corrections can be made as they go through the week and their progress will be seen in the results. If your child has any problems with the work, you can arrange a convenient time to discuss with Nivashnie.
