Maths and English Tuition in Tooting

Welcome to the Tooting First Class Learning Study Centre. Neela Patel, centre manager, has been running highly successful after-school maths and English classes for over 22 years (12 years Kumon).

COVID-19 UPDATE:- We continue to offer 1:1 support remotely with video or phone calls and the daily worksheets are posted to you. Due to the Coronavirus, the centre sessions are temporarily closed. However, all students can still make the same progress as if they were coming to the class.

Students of all ages are provided with a structured and individualised daily plan of study of around 10-15 minutes per day. 1:1 support is given whenever it is needed by a video call or phone call and weekly results are collected to ensure mastery and fluency.

The individualised programme is targeted to fill any existing gaps in their understanding. This therefore helps with their school work, builds confidence and develops independent learning skills, something that is extremely important in today's busy classrooms in schools.

Our English and maths programmes are flexible and tailored to learners' individual needs and abilities so students move on only when they are confident with a topic. Regular testing ensures that the best possible progress is made. The 'little and often' approach, with plenty of repetition and practise, really does make a huge difference.

How It Works

The first step is to arrange a convenient time for your child to complete some initial assessments. These are done via a video call. The Centre Manager, Neela, will discuss how she can help your child with their maths or English. An individualised programme is put together that will support and encourage your child's learning enabling them to gain confidence and fill in gaps that they may have. Your child can then start completing the daily worksheets with ongoing support from the Centre Manager whenever it is needed. Our programme is a partnership between First Class Learning, your child and you as parents so communication between all is important. We encourage all parents to mark the homework daily so that corrections can be made as they go through the week and their progress will be seen in the results. If they have any problems with the work, you can call Neela any time between 09:00 and 18:00, Monday to Friday.

Student Success

I have seen such a difference in my daughters confidence since commencing tuition with Neela and her team. First started with Maths and then as the Wandsworth test approached, their Verbal and Non Verbal Reasoning. They both did exceptionally well in their test and all their hard work paid off but a big thank you to Neela and her team. I would thoroughly recommend her to anyone else.
Anita Murthy
Joel loves coming to First Class Learning. Neela is very good with him, has very good knowledge about where to guide him and with his 11-plus she worked really hard to make sure he gets the best materials for his learning progress. I thank Neela and her team for his success in the exams and getting the offers Wilson’s and Sutton grammar schools. Thank you.
Earna Jay
I have been provided with prenominal academic support throughout my 7 years with this centre. When faced with the terror of GCSEs, Neela went out of her way to ensure I would achieve brilliant results - her work tested me on areas of maths and Science I was not previously confident with. Consequently, leading to the achievements of grades A – A* throughout my results.

FAQ

How does FCL differ to 1:1 tutoring?
FCL offers structure and daily practice, with a ‘little and often’ approach, enabling the child to retain what they have learnt & gain confidence with ease. It also develops good study habits and independent learning so that they don’t become dependent on others teaching them.
How will FCL help with my child’s school work?
By filling in any gaps they may have and developing their confidence we can change their attitude to a positive one and at the same time give them the skill sets needed to carry through to all school work.
Can I sit with my child while they do their work at the centre?
If your child is worried about coming into their first session, parents can come in to begin with but you won’t need to stay for long. Once they see the friendly faces and welcoming atmosphere, they are happy to stay on their own. We like to encourage independent and confident students.
If I join, am I tied into FCL for a set amount of time?
No, not at all. FCL is primarily a long term programme, not a 'quick fix'. However, there are many reasons why you may need to stop, so I just ask for a month's notice.
