Welcome to the Upper TootingFirst Class Learning Study Centre. Neela Patel, centre manager, has been running highly successful after-school maths and English classes for over 22 years.
COVID-19 UPDATE:- We continue to offer 1:1 support remotely with video or phone calls and the daily worksheets are posted to you. Due to the Coronavirus, the centre sessions are temporarily closed. However, all students can still make the same progress as if they were coming to the class.
Students of all ages are provided with a structured and individualised daily plan of study of around 10-15 minutes per day. 1:1 support is given whenever it is needed by a video call or phone call and weekly results are collected to ensure mastery and fluency.
The individualised programme is targeted to fill any existing gaps in their understanding. This therefore helps with their school work, builds confidence and develops independent learning skills, something that is extremely important in today's busy classrooms in schools.
Our English and maths programmes are flexible and tailored to learners' individual needs and abilities so students move on only when they are confident with a topic. Regular testing ensures that the best possible progress is made. The 'little and often' approach, with plenty of repetition and practise, really does make a huge difference.
Our Centre Manager, Neela, will call you to discuss how we can help your child with maths or English. She will look at any feedback that you have had from school and any observations you may already have about areas of strengths or weaknesses. She then devises a personalised assessment pack and posts it to you. Once you have received this, she will arrange a convenient time for your child to do the assessments via a video call. Once Neela has established your child's needs, she will put together an individualised programme that will support and encourage your child's learning enabling them to gain confidence and fill in gaps that they may have. If you feel happy with the plan, Neela will then post out your child's first homework pack with worksheets and handbooks so that they can get started on their learning journey. She will book a time with you for a regular Centre Manager catch up session, again ideally by video link. During this session Neela will go over any problems in the previous week's work, ensure they understand the work for the week ahead and do spelling tests or progress tests. They can then work through the daily worksheets with ongoing support from the Centre Manager whenever it is needed. Our programme is a partnership between First Class Learning, your child and you as parents. We encourage all parents to mark the homework daily so that corrections can be made as they go through the week and their progress will be seen in the results. If they have any problems with the work, you can call Neela at any time between 09:00 and 18:00, Monday to Friday.
