Maths and English Tuition at Wickford

How we work

Our First Class Learning Centre Manager will call you to discuss how we can help your child with maths or English. They will then assist your child to complete an assessment to determine which path is most suitable for them. Once we have established your child's needs, we will put together a bespoke course of action that will support and encourage your child's learning. If you feel happy with our plan and that we are the best option for you and your child, they will then be able to start attending regular classes at the centre or online. In these classes they will complete a short piece of work which will be marked, returned and discussed with your childs tutor. The Centre Manager will set them a detailed programme of homework to be completed before the next class. Students in year 6 to 11 are provided with workbooks for maths, English, all sciences as well as English literature. These workbooks are used in class and for homework.

Wickford First Class Learning Centre is run by Laraine Harris. A local tutor with more than 20 years experience. Laraine is fully trained and qualified to deliver the First Class Learning study programmes. Every First Class Learning Centre Manager holds an enhanced DBS certificate. At this centre we have a specialised 11-plus programme with an average pass rate of 98%. We nurture students from preschool to GCSE. We focus on individual year groups from year 6 up to year 11. Maths

The First Class Learning maths programme is designed to equip your child with the fundamental skills required for success in school mathematics. Using a range of resources, it covers all the essential areas of the school curriculum. It builds upon prior learning slowly ensuring concepts are embedded before moving on.

English

Our English programme concentrates on reading, phonics, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, punctuation, comprehension, creative writing and cursive handwriting. The initial assessment checks your child's specific needs so that we can provide an individualised programme most appropriate and engaging for them.

Science

Our comprehensive science programme will develop your child's knowledge and the skills required as part of their school curriculum. The programme has a proven record for improving results and encourages enjoyment in learning
