Maths and English Tuition at Widnes

Welcome to First Class Learning Widnes an Ofsted registered provider, where children learn to succeed. We are fully committed to improving the educational outcomes of children in the local community. We offer English, maths and science learning programmes for both primary and secondary school aged children, as well as bespoke GCSE and A-Level exam preparation.

Our structured, personalised tuition is targeted to fill any existing gaps in your child’s understanding and promote the development of existing knowledge. Our mission is to help your child with their school studies, develop their independent learning skills, build their confidence and enjoyment of English, maths and science.

Our learning programmes are flexible and tailored to learners' individual needs and abilities, so students move on only when they are confident with a topic. Every student is given 1:1 support and feedback from a tutor each week during their visit to the centre. Bespoke daily learning tasks will be set to complete at home to maximise progress and secure success. The 'little and often' approach, with plenty of repetition and practice, really does make a huge difference.

How we work

We look forward to discussing your child’s needs and ambitions with you and seeing how we can support your child with English, maths and/or science either over the phone or via email. The next step is to come along and visit our centre in Widnes. We will then support your child to complete a baseline assessment to determine which path is most suitable for them. We work hard to ensure this doesn’t feel like an exam or test but just a friendly way of us getting to know your child’s strengths and areas for development. Once we have established your child's needs, we will put together a bespoke plan that will support and encourage your child's learning. If you feel happy with our plan and that we are the best option for you and your child, they will then start attending regular classes at the centre. In their classes children complete a short piece of work which will be marked, returned, and discussed with a tutor who will give them a detailed programme of homework to complete before they next join us. Our priority is to foster a love of learning and make your child’s experiences at the centre enjoyable. Our baseline assessments are free, so we can work out together whether our First Class Learning sessions are the right path for your child.

FAQ

Is FCL 1:1 tutoring?
We describe tuition at our centre as 1:1 but in a group environment. Your child will receive their individual attention and support whilst attending our group classes. FCL offers structure and daily practice, with a ‘little and often’ approach, enabling them to retain what they have learnt and gain confidence with ease. It also develops good study habits and independent learning skills.
I want to know your prices – can I have some more information?
If you would like to know the prices then please get in touch via email or telephone. The Widnes centre offers competitive prices with both sibling discounts and multiple subject discounts. There is no fixed term contract and you are able to pay monthly.
What are your opening hours at the centre?
We are open Wednesday evenings 17:00 to 19:00 and Saturday mornings 09:00-11:00. If these times are not convenient please contact us to discuss your preferred day and time and we will do our best to accommodate you. Students typically spend 30-40 minutes at the centre each week completing and discussing the work with a tutor.
If I join, am I tied into FCL for a set amount of time?
No, not at all. FCL is primarily a long-term programme, not a ‘quick fix’. However, there are many reasons why you may need to discontinue, so we ask for just 1 months’ notice.
