Maths and English Tuition at Winnersh

Welcome to the Winnersh First Class Learning Centre, where children learn to succeed. Students of all ages attend our dedicated tuition centre in Winnersh at Cavity Dental Staff, 614 Reading Road, Winnersh, Wokingham RG41 5HE.

Our powerful learning programmes are designed to meet the objectives of the National Curriculum and we cater for learners aged 5 to 16 years old.

Every child who wants to join us completes a free maths and English assessment with the Centre Manager – who is a qualified and experienced professional. We provide detailed feedback and create personalised maths and English learning programmes targeting your child’s individual learning needs.

Our maths and English programmes are flexible and tailored to learners' individual needs and abilities, so students move on only when they are confident with a topic. Regular testing ensures that the best possible progress is made. The 'little and often' approach, with plenty of practice, really does make a huge difference.

We also offer additional personalised packages for students taking 11-plus, SATs, and GCSEs. These programmes include further time at the centre and the use of exam-relevant past and mock papers to develop exam technique and confidence.

How we work

Our First Class Learning Centre Manager will call you to discuss how we can help your child with maths, English, KS3 Science and 11-plus. They will then assist your child to complete an assessment to determine which path is most suitable for them. Once we have established your child's needs, we will put together a bespoke course of action that will support and encourage your child's learning. If you feel happy with our plan and that we are the best option for you and your child, they will then be able to start attending regular classes at the centre. In these classes, they will complete a short piece of work which will be marked, returned, and discussed with the Centre Manager, who will give them a detailed programme of homework to be completed before the next class.

Centre Manager

Afshan graduated in Computer Science and worked in the industry for many years. She also has much teaching and tutoring experience. She is fully trained and qualified to deliver the First Class Learning study programmes. She holds an enhanced DBS certificate and is trained in first aid.

Maths

The First Class Learning maths programme is designed to equip your child with the fundamental skills required for success in school mathematics. Using a range of resources, it covers all the essential areas of the school curriculum. It builds upon prior learning ensuring concepts are embedded before moving on.

English

Our English programme concentrates on reading, grammar, spelling, vocabulary, punctuation, creative writing and handwriting. The initial assessment checks your child's specific needs so that we can provide an individualised programme most appropriate and engaging for them.

Science

Our comprehensive science programme will develop your child's knowledge and the skills required as part of their school curriculum. The programme has a proven record for improving results and encourages enjoyment in learning.

FAQ

How does FCL differ to 1:1 tutoring?

FCL offers structure and daily practice, with a ‘little and often’ approach, enabling the child to retain what they have learnt and gain confidence with ease. It also develops good study habits and independent learning so that they don’t become dependent on others teaching them.

How will FCL help with my child’s school work?

By filling in any gaps they may have and developing their confidence we can change their attitude to a positive one and at the same time give them the skill sets needed to carry through to all school work.

Can I sit with my child while they do their work at the centre?

If your child is worried about coming into their first session, parents can come in to begin with but you won’t need to stay for long. Once they see the friendly faces and welcoming atmosphere, they are happy to stay on their own. We like to encourage independent and confident students.

If I join, am I tied into FCL for a set amount of time?

No, not at all. FCL is primarily a long term programme, not a 'quick fix'. However, there are many reasons why you may need to stop, so I just ask for a month's notice.
