Maths and English Tuition at Walthamstow Spruce Hill

Welcome to the Walthamstow First Class Learning Centre! Students of all ages attend our dedicated tuition centre in the heart of Walthamstow, Woodstreet Library, 1 Troubridge Square, E17 3HB, London.

Our powerful learning programmes are designed to meet the objectives of the National Curriculum and we cater for learners aged 4 to 16 years old.

Every child who wants to join us completes a free maths and English assessment with the Centre Managers – who are both qualified and experienced professionals. We provide detailed feedback and create personalised maths and English learning programmes that target your child's individual learning needs.

Through our structured programmes, our centre managers individualises each child’s learning path, which is targeted to fill any existing gaps in their understanding and promote development of existing knowledge. This therefore helps with their school work, builds confidence and develops independent learning skills, something that is extremely important in today's busy classrooms in schools.

Our maths, English, and science programmes are flexible and tailored to learners' individual needs and abilities, so students move on only when they are confident with a topic. Regular testing ensures that the best possible progress is made. The 'little and often' approach, with plenty of repetition and practice, really does make a huge difference.

How we work

Our First Class Learning Centre Managers, will call you to discuss how we can help your child with maths, English or KS3 Science. They will then assist your child to complete an assessment to determine which path is most suitable. Once we have established your child's needs, we will put together a bespoke course of action that will support and encourage your child's learning. This assessment can happen at a mutually-convenient location, or online. If you feel happy with our plan and that we are the best option for you and your child, they will then be able to start attending regular classes at the centre or online. In these classes they will complete a short piece of work which will be marked, returned and discussed with the Centre Manager, who will give them a detailed programme of homework to be completed before the next class.

FAQ

How does FCL differ to 1:1 tutoring?
FCL offers structure and daily practice, with a ‘little and often’ approach, enabling the child to retain what they have learnt and gain confidence with ease. It also develops good study habits and independent learning so that they don’t become dependent on others teaching them.
How will FCL help with my child’s school work?
By filling in any gaps they may have and developing their confidence we can change their attitude to a positive one and at the same time give them the skill sets needed to carry through to all school work.
Can I sit with my child while they do their work at the centre?
If your child is worried about coming into their first session, parents can come in to begin with but you won’t need to stay for long. Once they see the friendly faces and welcoming atmosphere, they are happy to stay on their own. We like to encourage independent and confident students.
If I join, am I tied into FCL for a set amount of time?
No, not at all. FCL is primarily a long term programme, not a 'quick fix'. However, there are many reasons why you may need to stop, so I just ask for a month's notice.
