Maths and English Tuition at Wood Green

Welcome to the Wood Green First Class Learning Centre which is now open again and teaching students in person. This centre is run by Poonam Singhania and Aastha Singhania, who also run centres in Hendon and Primrose Hill. We support children from the age of 4 to 16 in the local community with both Maths and English tuition.

Students of this age group are welcome to attend our study centre at Haringey Library, 2nd floor, N22 6XD. We cater for learners from Early Years and primary through to GCSE and adult students. Our tuition centre incorporates First Class Learning, SATS, 11-plus, 13-plus and GCSE worksheets.

We will provide your child with a structured and an individualised daily study plan of about 10-15 minutes each day, with 1:1 support given whenever needed by a video or a phone call.

The learning content and pace will be individualised to meet your child’s personal learning needs to help them gain confidence in their own abilities, develop independent learning skills and enable them to realise their potential. This newfound confidence in their ability can help them to make better progress in their studies at school.

We believe that it is important to develop problem solving skills and comprehension skills early on so that children can apply themselves in every other subject in school.

At First Class Learning we believe in 1% steps to 100% success.

How we work

We will meet you in person to discuss how we can help your child with maths, English and/or Science. We will then assess your child to determine which path is most suitable for them. Once we have established your child's needs, we will put together a bespoke course of action that will support and encourage your child's learning. Upon your approval, your child will then be able to start the course with the worksheets, attending regular classes at the centre or online, with support from us. During classes, they will complete a short piece of work which will be marked, reviewed and corrections done. The student will then be given homework to practise the skill set covered in class to be completed over the following week. The homework time required is 10-15 mins daily. We encourage for any corrections to be made on the same day so that your child quickly learns from any mistakes, and you can see the progress made over the week. Our programme is a partnership between First Class Learning, your child, and you as parents, and therefore, communication between all is important.

Tuition Services

Maths

The First Class Learning Maths programme is designed to equip your child with fundamental skills required for success in school mathematics. We focus on numeracy skills coupled with applied Reasoning and Arithmetic to prepare them for their year and for other competitive exams. It covers all the essential areas of the school curriculum using a range of resources.

English

Our English programme is National Curriculum inclined which also provides extra help and boost that a child requires to master the language. We ensure the use of spelling, vocabulary, punctuation and comprehension from a very early stage so that creative writing and handwriting becomes second nature to the students.

Science

Our comprehensive science programme will develop your child's knowledge and the skills required as part of their school curriculum. The programme has a proven record for improving results and encourages enjoyment in learning.

FAQ

How does FCL differ to 1:1 tutoring?
FCL offers structure and daily practice, with a ‘little and often’ approach, enabling the child to retain what they have learnt and gain confidence with ease. It also develops good study habits and independent learning so that they don’t become dependent on others teaching them.
Can I sit with my child while they do their work at the centre?
If your child is worried about coming into their first session, parents can come in to begin with but you won’t need to stay for long. Once they see the friendly faces and welcoming atmosphere, they are happy to stay on their own. We like to encourage independent and confident students.
How will FCL help with my child’s school work?
By filling in any gaps they may have and developing their confidence we can change their attitude to a positive one and at the same time give them the skill sets needed to carry through to all school work.
If I join, am I tied into FCL for a set amount of time?
No, not at all. FCL is primarily a long term programme, not a 'quick fix'. However, there are many reasons why you may need to stop, so we just ask for a month's notice.
